Default Magum 30% = Junk?

Ok, I seem to get conflicting info On Magnum Fuel.
People say it is eating their bearings.. and there are people who have been flying on it successfully for a long time.

Can anyone give me some input on whether or not I should fly it in hyper?

I was just at our local field yesterday, burned a few tanks, and I was talking to a guy with a pilon plane.. (the thing does about 170mph) but anyway.. I mentioned magnum fuel to him, and he said no go.. it corrodes my bearings.. so he was another person (not in these forums) to say that Magnum eats bearings...

Please let me know what you think.. thanks

Should I fly it?

We used it last summer without any issues. Engine still running perfectly. I would not hesitate to use it if I were you.

I don't know how people can say things like that. If hundreds of people are burning this fuel with no problems, how can a few say that it eats the bearings in their engines. What makes their engines so different from everyone elses? Does the fuel just decide not to like a peticular engine or bearing? These people probably just can't tune their engines right on this type of fuel (or whatever brand they say "eats" their bearings) It makes no sense that one engine can use it and another cannot.

Magnum 30 is in my opinion the best fuel to use in the Hyper. CoolPower runs dirty, Almost all engines I have that have been run on CoolPower have been dirty on inspection. the plugs would have brown speckles on them after 1 gallon. Bekra was ok but I could never get it to sit "on the pipe" so to speak. Switched to Magnum and got loads of power, a cooler running engine and more time between plug changes. Magnum has 22 or 23 % oil in it aswel as opposed to CoolPowers 18% so it doesnt make sense to me.

Maybe people that are reporting bearing failure are seeing it because they havent always been running Magnum

Seriously, if anyone reading this hasnt used Magnum 30 before give it a try, you WILL like it, if not for the better running, the extra smoke is cool too!

Magnum is supposed to be the best fuel for bearings in the OS50 Hyper engine, it also seems to have more power, its cheaper than cool power and i found it much better in every respect.

I know people just like to complain about things and everything I hear is taken with a grain of salt.
Magnum is made right here close-by in Denver, I wonder if they let people pick up fuel?

They have a min online of 3 cases.. anyone near here want to maybe go in on 3 cases?
Im in Boulder Colorado.

Your buddy with the pilon plane is running some serious rpm. He will be doing bearings no matter what! It also seems that my planes will get rusty bearings while my heli's don't. I think maybe the position the motor sits in or the air in the shroud influence that. Not sure.

pylon engines turn at alot higher rpm than our heli engines ( believe one of my older 40 size ones turned about 26k rpm). So the bearings are undergoing more abuse and getting more heat transfered to them as well, since the cylinder heads are typically out in the open and the cases are covered. I have seen some fuels w/ certain types of bearings corrode the bearings, but not if they had been used routinely. It mostly happened after the motors had sat for a few months.

Use it, it wont hurt anything as long as you use it regularly.

Just got a gallon of the new Magnum fuel yesterday. Flew a tank last night, os 50 hyper. No problems transitioning over from the old fuel. Lots of power and a cool running engine. Be interesting to see if I have bearing failure in the near future. OS 50 hyper's rear bearing don't last anyway so if there is a bearing failure , I really can't blame it on the fuel.

I have put about 2 cases of Magnum fuel through my TT 53 and it runs well. I will tell you though that it is much more sensitive when it comes to tuning your motor. It is much less forgiving. But, once it is tuned, it runs very well.

Running Magnum 30% in both my 600nsp and my 700 without any bearing problems.

I have heard about Magnum junking bearings but until I suffer from the same I will continue using it.

If or when your bearings do go, put stainless steal bearings back in.

Did you guys have to run the "special" glow plug for Hyper or TT53?

Not sure i like your wording "proper"................lol

From what i understand, it does not use nitro. It uses a product that does the same as nitro but is MUCH less expensive.

We have a fellow who burns it in our club. All he has found is you have to make subtle tuning changes and it prefers its own glow plug. Puts out nearly 100% power compared to CP fuel. Also, it has its own unique smell......lol

I have been running the new magnum blend for a few gallons. I use the buzz plug that you can get from magnum they are $6. I also get 1 whole minute more flight time with this fuel and more power. You really have to lean it out a ton for the fuel to work. I think I am about one turn out on the main needle with the tt53 and getting a head temp of 220.
