SK-720BE will not connect to SK-GPS
The SK-720BE will not detect the SK-GPS.
A few weeks ago, I bought a 'refurb' SK-720BE and 2 refurb SK-GPS. Since I already had 1 SK-720BE, I wanted them both to have GPS. I was not keeping track of the gyros on the bench, but I am pretty sure this is the refub gyro. For trouble shooting, I tried both of the SK-GPS units on it. Neither one will show the blinking blue LED and the Setup software shows the GPS is not connected. I also confirmed that both SK-GPS are detected and work fine in the other SK-720BE (#2). I tried 3 different SK-720BE to SK-GPS cables I carefully inspected the 4 pins on the GPS connector of the SK-720BE (they are all straight and in-line) Both SK-720BE had 4.05b installed when I got them This one I updated to 4.07. The other is still 4.05b. I seem to remember that this gyro / GPS combination connected before the upgrade to 4.07 - but I could be wrong. I did the "factory reset" on this gyro (connected a Spektrum bind plug between the top row of EX-LED and IO-C and plug in the USB cable). I got all the right responses from the Gyro Setup software and the flashing LED on the gyro. But, it didn't help. Am I missing something? |

Skookum replied to my email last week with a suggestion to down-grade back to teh 4.05b code.
After they jiggered the web site, I could see there was a version placed there specifically for this unit. Unfortunately, no matter what I tried, the 720BE would not download the code. It would start and then fail. I called Skookum today. After a brief conversation, I was told "Send it back, we will take care of it". They didn't think the 4.07 code was the real problem. While we might be able to figure out how to get it down-graded, most likely it would not see the GPS anyway. USPS Priority Mail International® Small Flat Rate Box - $20. I hope it gets there quickly I hope it gets back here faster - lol. |

I just got my sk540 back from them. Fairly quick considering. Took about 3 weeks.

I received my SK-720BE back from Skookum on 7/20.
They were going to ship it back for free, but I paid the extra $15 for the 3-day shipping. I'll have to hook it up to verify that it connects to the GPS. They didn't tell me what was wrong. |
