Default Main gear problems

I had to get a new main gear because i stripped the other one.

Those screws that hold it onto the owb thing would NOT go screw in! It took a good hour and a half, lots of frustration, and 4 stripped out screws to get them in... Did i do something wrong? It's okay now, but i'd like to know for next time.

Sometimes the holes are just a little too small. I then use a reamer to make the holes just a little bigger. Works just fine.

Just a side tip for what it's worth..

It also helps to chamfer the holes on the surface the screws will thread into..30 or 45 degree works...No Chamfer tool?

Just use a Phillips screwdriver that the tip of the driver enters the hole, keeping screwdriver as close to vertical just put some small down pressure while giving it a few turns Both clockwise and counterclockwise. Other tools can be used, but the screw driver trick is a cheap and easy way, in plastic or aluminum.

Whatever method works for you. Keep in mind a screw into plastic needs only be tightened 1/8 of a turn past contact. More will pull or strip threads...an over tightened screw has Less holding strength also.. Let's not get too deep in thread dynamics.

The chamfer serves Two purposes.

1> The self-tapping screw starts in easier and straighter.

2> A proper depth chamfer allows space for the material displaced by the threading or tightening action. If there is no chamfer, the material that pulls up at the last bit of tightening can prevent both parts from being flush.

In the mechanical field it makes possible metal to metal gasket-less seals , in electronics increased thermal transfer with one other technique.
