Default HK now has a 550

Hobby King Is now offering a 550 size. Its FB with BELT. However very soon they say they will be offfering their 550 in a fbl and T.T version. Im all for this kit. I love the tinker that comes with clones. Also looks like they have made some decent upgrades in quality over their past kits.. Im sure this will be a big seller for those on a budget or simply love a clone build.....Sorry bout the bad link. Duytang has posted one

Wow! That thing looks almost exactly like an Align 550, right down to the hole patterns on the frame and the tail blade grips! How do they get away with this?

This looks promising. A 550 complete for under 550 bucks. I like it. I suppose even if the quality is not on par with align the price makes it a good selling point. I could also swallow piling up a 500 heli as oppsed to a 1K heli trying new stunts.

If it was a Tarot clone of the Align 550, I may be somewhat interested.

Im thinking about possibly getting one of these, I would put a DFC head on it immediately though and a few other align parts that I have laying around. Im hesitant because I have tried the HK450 Pro and that thing wasn't up to par for me. The price of this entices me though to atleast give it a shot.

did some math....if you stay on the HK550 page an offr for $135 pops up so I added it to the cart. The shipping and handling is $43! so now its up to $178 + 70ish for a DFC head that I would HAVE to put on it. So its at around $230 plus I would get a different canopy for it and probably change the swash and a few other parts. Plus $60ish for blades, so it would be around $300 for me. I'm watching the Align trex 550 kits barebones with blades going for $340 on ebay...I think I will just go that route if I were to do a 550. I promised myself after my HK450 Pro...no more clones, but this is pretty tempting.

It looks nice, but I'd plan to budget $50-100 in Align parts. Bearings and shafts on the clones tend to be sub-par. Then you gotta go out and buy a canopy b/c those plastic ones end up cracking within 6 months.

My HK450 now only has the main frame and tail case with HK parts...the remainder is Align with a ClubHeli FBL head. I was able to spread out the parts cost over time with this heli, but I probably have spent as much on it as I would have a real Align 450. I don't mind beating the dog out of it though

The $40 shipping cost is unappealing to me, but I'm tempted to buy the FB kit and running my FPV gear on it.

I did a quick search and Align does sell 550 belt tail parts. I thought it was always TT

Do you see that metal tail servo mount? It appears to have no gusseting, but is a common failure for the clone 450 tail mounts. I'd run out and buy an Align plastic tray asap.

I would probably buy FBL if I were to get a new kit, but here is some food for thought vs the HK550:

KX021007 T-REX 550E V2 Super Combo $736.80 from Experience RC (Flybarred)

---> Kit, Align 70A ESC, Align 520 Blades, DS610 cyclic servos, DS620 tail servo, Align GP780 tail gyro, 600MX motor, 90mm carbon tail blades, Nice Fiberglass canopy
--à Pluses: It is genuine Align, includes new FB head design with LE control, new one way bearing design with radial bearing incorporated, TT tail, and everything is in one box so you don’t have to hunt down component parts.
-à Minuses: I wouldn’t go out and buy the Align ESC or Gyro, the DS650 would be a better tail option, I wouldn’t choose those blades.
