Default HP08 on stock ESC: good idea or bad?

I've see quite a few reports of people having problems with their 3in1's after running HP08 motors.

Please only respond to the poll if you have more than 50 flights with an HP08 without running an external ESC.

Lets see the results!

I have over 236 flights on my hpo8 in the 130 with zero problems. It's a great upgrade. Also just recently got a couple Hyperion 500 mah packs and they are by far the best packs I have ever tried.

I have at least 150 flights, probably considerably more on my two HP08s on two separate helis, zero problems with either of them. Both using the onboard esc.

Kind of confused about the question. You said only respond if you have more than 50 flights, but the poll ask if you had any problems. Anyway my stock esc lastest about 2 minutes with the HP08s. XP12a on the way.

Hp08 on 10t won't burn 3 in 1, much greater chance of burning it on 11t though!

XP-12a and stock esc both use the same fets. Bad connections between the motor and esc will kill the esc in short order most of the time, which is why I always recommend ditching the crappy stock motor plug.

+1, I used gold plated 2mm bullets on my first conversion. I'm using the same exact bullets on my 250 w/Scorpion motor, so I'm sure they're more than adequate for the HP08...Second one uses stock connector (I was in a hurry), and I'm not really comfortable with that setup. Need to order some more bullets.....

That's what I did. I used a 3 pin Deans micro plug for the motor and ESC connection and have over a 100 flights on my HP08 with zero problems.

I picked up some of the 3 pins Micro deans a few weeks ago from ebay. Will be dropping the HP08 in soon. Part of me wants to run the XP12A for gov but the other part of me just wants to keep things simple.

I soldered the motor wires and use Micro Deans for the batts. No issues. Oh and using the 10T pinion.

I just installed my HP08 and solder the wires to the motor and it went up in smoke. Now I wish I would have kept the stock motor in because it was flying and running so well. If it ain't broke, don't fix it is what I should have done. I was so looking forward to the HP08.

I bet you had a short somewhere. I doubt the HP08 was the cause though. I shrink wrap all my wires even though the motor wires are supposed to have been coated already.

Bullet connectors, the ones normally used on brushless motors.
Here are the 2mm connectors on my Trex 250:

Actually, I lied. I just looked at my 130X and I wound up using some micro bullets I got from Dylan. They're rated at 4.5 amps each, so I'm sure they're more than adequate. They're buried in my heli, so I'm not going to pull it apart to take a pic right now.....

I didn't shrink wrap all the wires completely, only at the solder joints. I bet you are right.
I wonder if it would be okay to use the small bullet connectors next time as well as shrink wrap all the wires?

I think the bullet connector is a great idea and I would do that if I ever have to do it again. As for now, I'm ok with the stock connector
