Default Reversing motors Vs. CP quad

I looked but didn't find any good comparisons. With the success of the Stingray 500 and the (possibly) up-and-coming Blade 200QX, it seems inverted quads may be the new thing.

Is one system better than the other? Which is more efficient? Can a larger quad reverse the motors or is this a mini-quad only gig?

What are your thoughts, and what system would you prefer to run?

I spend enough time in maintenance already with quads... I don't think I want to be working on a stingray.

I would think the motor reversing would only work well on rotors with less inertia... smaller ones.

IAC I'll leave the inverted stuff to my helis.

For proper 3d like tic tocs you need cp like the stingray, reversing motors looks great to me and for slow 3d and invert would be fine. As soon as there is an easy way to configure fc and esc to reverse motors I plan to get one. Hacked versions (mwc/simonk) have been flying for a year or more, I'm really hoping horizon have done this with 200qx as it would give it a reason to exist.

All I know is, if my quad is upside down, in the next few seconds following inversion, something undesirable is about to happen. It's going to be ugly and of course, expensive...

Looks like an old post, but the 200QX is awesome with reversing motors!!

I just got my sport props today and flipping this thing is so EASY!

This is just a diversion to get you interested in another hunk of junk HH is palming off as the next great thing. It keeps you off their backs about the POS 350QX problems.

Come on people. Quit being so gullible buying the HH toy quads. Unless they come out and say there is a problem with the 350QX line and fix it, I just wouldn't buy what they're hawking.

So if this is the next big thing, when's DJI going to send a firmware update for NAZA and sell compatible props?

I'd think that either mode is good but motor reversing is simpler, just only appropriate for smaller multicopters. CP is nice but requires servos so extra weight and wires. Linkages obviously prone to breaking, bending, setup woes, etc. but would probably be the way to go on larger ships.

I wouldn't mind a 3D machine for playing and a larger, stable non-3D ship for camera work.

FYI, not that they're 3D but Align is coming out with multicopters, FCs, and gimbals too. Similar design to DJI S800/S900. Watch out!

I must be missing something, I guess. When the Stingray first came out, it actually crossed my mind to buy one, but then I got to thinking it wouldn't be as good for AP as my regular quads and not as good at 3d as my Mikado or KDS
birds. so what's the point?

I guess the point is simply to be able to do some more "hardcore" areobatics with multirotors. I would say a "standard" CP heli would still be the best at "3D" but a multirotor that can do it could be fun too, especially if it can auto-level inverted, aka "stagility", which would be helpful for lazy 3D and for learning.

I have two intended purposes for my F450: AP platform, and sport flying. This is why I decided to go 4S from the start. If I were able to go inverted (not just flips, which I haven't had the stones to try yet) I would say it would crank up the fun factor a notch.

If I really want to tear up the sky, I'll pry my Aurora off the wall and clean the dust off of it but for now, I'm having enough fun playing with my F450.

Well then, I say that's all the reason you need! The point is to do what's fun for you and not let anyone else tell you what that is. I can certainly see the fun of
doing it out of curiosity to see what works. Keep us posted!

Agreed. I'd love to have any of these 3D quads to try out but the wallet says I need to pay off what I spent on the 450 first and I still need a gimbal, FPV gear, and mini iOSD too.

I like either one actually. But the reversing motors thing is quite fascinating. My original thoughts were that it was impossible to do that. As you had to stop the motor then start it up in the opposite direction. There would be a time lag. But as we all see people are doing it and it works.

It now has me wondering as to how large one could go with a reversiong motor quad.
