Can i run no BEC direct lipo?
Sorry quick qwestion before I make a order online (my first 700 size heli has just arived at my door step )
Ive got high voltage cyclic servos. a beast X CC80v HV speed controler (all i think can take dirrect 2s lipo. But ive got a 650 align tail servo (rated 6v max) Does this mean I need to run a bec? Or can I run no BEC but add one of these on the tail servo http://www.align-trex.co.uk/51v-two-...81a-p-596.html |

Just run the two-way step down from align on the tail servo. Or sell it off for $40 bucks and then buy a high voltage tail servo.

sweet. cheers for the help. I will do more research but want to get my order in for tomorrow morning.
Do you run the lipo strate into the beast x and that's. Then the step down between the beast and the tail servo? I think the RX will get power from the beast. Can I run a switch between the beast and the lipo? |

More and more people are using LiFe 2s packs. 6.6vdc and no reports of problems with
6 volt servos. 2s lipo fully charged is 8.4vdc, too much for 6v servos. I have been a regulator guy for a long time. Upside is you can use any batt you want, and the voltage stays the same, from begining to end. You can also adjust the voltage anywhere you like. Downside is another failure point. Both options will work nicely.

ummm its alittle close i no but that's what it came with to start off with.
Its going to be a AP ship so hovering and FF. Saying that im going to have a little play with it before it gets mounted with cam's ect. Im not going to spank it though so it should be ok? |

Just keep the HS low, 12S 80A esc were common for 90e about 3-4 years ago. Lifting a camera setup will increase the required power to hover tho.

Agreed, why would you risk all that expensive camera equipment? Are you
going to practice autos with an AP rig?

Apparently in normal flight a 700 heli only pushes around 30-40amps

Not the point. We use ESC's that are rated above what the motor draws max. It will
probably work. Is that good enough?

If the heli draws 50 amps at peak, do you need more than an 80 amp ESC?

Who said a 700 draws 50 amps peak?
You want an ESC rated well above any current that a motor will draw. If a 700 is drawing 30- 40 amps at hover, that does not mean a 50 amp Esc is sufficient.

Anyone not doing 3D can easily get away with an 80A esc, if they keep the HS and pitch down to sensible levels (heck an AP rig probably only needs 1500-1600RPM 10-12deg pitch, possibly less)

Sorry, but that is not the way you set up a model. I don't care if it is a car, boat, plane,
tank, or heli. You choose a speed control that is rated above what the model will use. If you will potentially see 80 amps, then you need an ESC that can handle well over 80 amps. You can set it up with a smaller ESC but that is asking for trouble.

Hey look at attachment, QUICK answer. Max my 700 has drawn is 118.9 amps and this is on a CC 120HV with a scorpion HKIII 4035-560 12T/112T gearing.

An 80A continuous ESC should be able to handle the odd spike up to around 100A without issues. Thats over 4kW by the way, more power than most nitros have period.
