Scott:

First, my credentials: I just set up my first 3gx and haven't tried to fly it yet.

However, the rudder setup on the 3gx is the same as on the GP780 gyro and I have flown a few of those. Calibrate the rudder mechanically as you described in your last post and leave the DR at 100%.

The thing to remember is that behavior on the bench is NOT identical to behavior in the air. On the bench, with the 3gx in heading hold mode (green light) a tiny rudder input can cause full travel on the slider because the nose of the heli does not turn. The gyro knows you are giving the command to turn, it moves the slider, nothing happens, it moves the slider more, etc. until it hits your calibrated limit.

Now, in the air you give the command, gyro moves the slider, the heli turns, the gyro is happy and the slider stays near the center.

BTW: There is a Finless Bob video for setting up the GP780. It might be separate or it might be one of the TRex 450 build videos.

Hope this helps.
Pete

When in DIR mode and setting up servo centers is it acceptable to use subtrim to set servo centers after getting as close as possible with the servo horn placement first ?

Here's a good video series of 3gx setup in detail posted on YouTube by 33forsaken (Freddy can fly) who has posted some very good how to videos including a trex550 build. This is just one of five of "3GX FULL SET UP"
