Default sullivan start shaft........

ok, rebuilt my raptor 30 engine. out in the driveway to start it up for break in. go to start it with my shiny new sullivan hi torq starter with the 99 dollar sullivan start shaft. engine turns over but its not lighting.....bump the throttle a little.....engine turns over like it wants to light but no joy. enough about the engine, what happened to the tip of my starter shaft! and what happened to the start coupler of my raptor! both are ruined, with little bits of metal everywhere! the engine never locked up. the shaft was not "spinning" in the coupler. what the heck? its to the point that if i put the shaft into the coupler that it gets stuck! and im lookin around and i dont see anywhere that you can buy just the shaft without the part that screws into the part that bolts onto the starter. they cant really expect me to pay 90 bucks for a whole new shaft, right? am i missing something here?

just talked to sullivan. they say that they have a newer version/replacement in the works. it will be a free replacement. 4-6 weeks out tho. they are sending me a new shaft that "will work, but is not pretty" in the mean time!

starting a heli is no beauty contest.....as long as it works

Yeah, I had one toast as well. They charged me for a new bit piece, but it didn't fit my older starter shaft. So I ended up getting a new one. The new one has a one way bearing in it, so it can rotate.

I think it's a 6mm hex bit.

i have the newer sullivan with the double one ways. i duno what the issue was, really. i was trying to fire up a 37, and just heard a grindy noise. i dunno if it was slipping in the start adapter or what. ill be interested to see what they send me, as i just sent mine in today. it is just the silver part that they wanted. the girl said something about a "new improved" something, but it wouldnt be available for 4-6 weeks. i have an older mavrikk that i mat be able to get to work, i never really liked it tho as it screws on and the clamp bolts are crap. i could never get it tight enough to where it wouldnt unscrew before it started the engine....

thanks for the offer mckrackin

im gonna see how this all sorts out tho, and try to get the mavrikk to work in the meantime

I bought the Align starter and it made starting my heli's much more civilized. Best starter I have ever used. Extremely smooth.

i looked at the align starter. but my tq180 on 12v wasnt gettin it done. im running the sullivan on a 5s lipo, so it should start just about anything. i liked the align, especially the way the shaft attaches, but i just needed more than 12v.
