I want to try the last mod... Brushless tail with blheli software like my mcpx dual brushless. If it work pretty well for the mcpx why not for the SR... after all the ESC + the motor is only around 15 $ add 10$ if you need the programmer for blheli firmware

I should finished this mod probably in september. I will let you know.
I just finished adjust the blheli programming after some testing and now my SR is awsome! Wow I'am really impressed for only around 20$ the best upgrade I did on the SR after the gyro. The tail hold really well near my Trex 450

Anyone know if an E-Flite Park 250 will work on an SR's tail? I have one and a Castle TBird 9 sitting around and would like to ditch the brushed tail motor on my SR that will be here in a few hours. I suspect I'll have to throw something in the lathe and make a mount, but I have some delrin that should work for that.

I don't think so, not enought KV and voltage range is 6 to 8.4v... SR is 3S so you need a motor that run on 3S(10 to 12,6V) at least otherwise you will need a voltage Drop componenent in serial with the new ESC.

Wink Hello helifriends

I am here a new and owning Blade SR heli and with a pain was there short lifespan of dc tail motor and I decided to search for ac brushless motor solution. Finaly found this forum, where was all explained. Choose Turnigy C 2020 small 11g motor with four blades Eflite 100mm prop and Turnigy Plush 12A which I had in my parts case. 1st. time choose ESC Turnigy Afro 12A with SimonK with fast response, but not with success. Still using the stock Eflite giro, maybe will be changed with HK 401B soon. Reaktion of tail are very good in flight and hover stable, tail is highten, because this heli was basicly Huey with green fuselage and I made Blade SR them back again.
This experience what I found here try to public on our czech heli forum, because no idea how to do found tere,
Happy incomming Christmas to all, Plha.

Hi,

could anyone who flashed BLHeli to his ESC please post a screenshot of your setup?
Could you also post the version of BLHeli you flashed to the ESC?

I have problems finding out the correct settings for the configuration Sailman posted.

Thank

Johannes

Hi all,
New(?) way to convert SR to BL tail.
PWM signal picked from stock 2in1 ESC (pin 4 of F7413Z):

I used Blue Arrow BL1230 4200kv motor, Turnigy Plush 10A with BLheli 14.1 for the tail.
I have no experience to determine how it works in 3D, but it hover properly.
Here is a short video:
Blade SR brushless tail mod (0 min 56 sec)

Setup fo BLheli:

It`s my first bird, and now it full BL! (why everybody call this helicoter "she" ??? )

Thats great info, but I don't understand how you did it...I mean I see the pix of the parts used and such but it looks like you had to do some work to a circuit board or something....Not sure about the chart thing either, how do you set it up???
Looks like it flies pretty stable though!
We call everything she I guess because like a woman we love whatever particular mechanical thing, and like a woman "she" can be a pain in the rear too, frustrate us like no tomorrow! :-)

1. Flash tail BL ESC with BLheli 14.1 (in my case, Turnigy plush 10A)
Set it up as in the picture (important - turn on "pwm input" and turn off "programming by TX")
2. Remove the shrink tube from stock ESC (EFLA308H). Solder one wire as in the picture (pin4 F7413Z) - this will be PWM signal for BL ESC, and 2 wires for power BL ESC.
3. Replace stock tail motor with BL. I have some trouble centering tail prop adapter, but this can be solved.

Solder 3 wires from ESC to BL motor (Blue Arrow BL1230 4200Kv). Check rotation - it must be clockwize. If not, change motor direction in BLheli, or resolder 2 wires of BL motor.

Not really.
I'm just 15 hours in simulator, day was windy, and after replacing the motor, tail wag still there (need to change gyro tape).
Sure, in experienced hands, SHE will fly perfectly!

UPD: problem with a short shaft of BL1230 4200kv remain unsolved. Cant align the tail properly. I spent about 30 minutes to install, but the tail is still a slight deviation. I cut the bottom of the adapter:

I will order BL1230 5300kv with 8mm shaft.

Ah see I am pretty limited in electronic know how, mechanically I can fix it, but when it comes to knowing about flashing and the like that's where I get lost...:-(
Plus I would rather use a Spartan Quark gyro on it, it's a compact Dynamo that has very good tail lock capabilities!

Yes, this mod need some soldering skill..
Any gyro, which work with SR, will work with this mod, I think.

I know how to solder, I just don't know what is involved with "flashing"

Hey, I felt the same way. Don't know anything about flashing an ESC either but have been following this new info and didn't want to sound stupid. I'm glad you asked. I'm gonna read about it just so I can learn something.

That looks like a pretty promising BL tail conversion for the SR!

If you decide to flash, you can save and buy "Blheli Hobbywing Skywalker USB Constant Speed ESC Programmer" instead Toolstick base adapter. It works just as well, I use such an adapter.

Thank you for the tip! But how does this connect to what where? I am figuring that the USB plug goes into the computer, but what does it hook up to after that ? I see the little plug attached to it that looks like a balance plug for a small lipo, but how id this set up??
