TDR2 : Which receiver to choose ?
Hello,
Small question that bothers me ... and I'd like your opinion. My radio is a spektrum (DX9) and I will use a BD3SX on TDR2, so that means a minimum of 7 channels ... I think the retractable landing gear will use an additional channel, so 8 channels ... I do not see how to install the AR8000 in the TDR2 bringing out the antenna properly ... in addition, for now, the canopy is made of carbon, so this means that we must extend the antenna to the outside ... After there is the AR9310 with "long" antennas but that is double the thickness and which seems difficult to install in the TDR2. Any idea? It's time to get a Jeti
They have receivers that will send a PPM or UDI line out to the FBL controller and then drive additional channels from the receiver. You'll want some great telemetry with that bad boy anyway

That said Spectrum does have a carbon fuse satellite with a 24" extension.
https://www.spektrumrc.com/Products/...ProdID=SPM9646 However most of the Jeti receivers have reasonably long antennas. You can see Robert Sixt's is using Jeti.

I'm using R3's and they work well for a telemetry and PPM/UDI connection.
However if you want the future integration points for FBL control with the Spirit and next gen BD FBL controller and others there are new receivers that have two high speed ports. They allow you to get both a real 10ms frame rate and the ability to configure some of the FBL controller features from the TX. You can get that same frame rate and configuration capability with the R3, but you would loose your Telemetry input.

From what I have read carbon canopy is optional, so if it won't work with your setup get a stock fibreglass version. As far as a ppm rx goes your looking at the clones orange RX etc, but spectrum is apparently working on one at the moment for the drone guys so could be an option soon.

OrangeRx make new receivers from 6 to 12 channels with telemetry and long antennas. I found this one with 9 channels :
http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store..._and_CPPM.html It could be a good solution for my problem. I've ordered one to test on my mini-protos... |

I do not think I would trust one of those Orange Rx's on a TDR!
The Spektrum AR8000 is a very good Rx, if I remember correctly it is mandatory to use a spectrum satellite DSMX RX with it, mine does not work as a standalone. The BD3SX will accept 2 spektrum satellites directly like the VBAR anyway, much neater. There was some scare mongering a while ago but that was to do with low voltage setups, <6v. If useing HV servo's then definately no problem. Of course an extra channel would be difficult for retracts, can be done easily with a VBar. Another option is to do the satellite thing and you can bind an orange RX at the same time and use an output for the retract servo. I did this with a nightflyer, used a seperate RX for the light controls.

Don't want to hijack the thread but it just dawned on me, duh!, that with my BD3SX if I want to control retracts with my Jeti Tx the new REX receiver will be perfect.

No need for this. You can use the Output 2 port on the BD 3SX to control the retracts.

Good info, wasn't aware that you could do that with BD3SX too.

Why not use the ar9310 and sat with the BD just for safety. I belive they are made to stay inside a carbon fuse. I am going to be using BD also in a complete enclosed carbon fiber fuse so that why I am asking. I was thinking of running one antenna from rec and sat to run outside heli and tape down.
I wanted to just use the spektrum carbon sats with the BD but not sure that will work. Money no issue just want a good strong signal. Wish I could find some test date to support carbon sat . Thx |

I use a AR6260 carbon receiver inside my TDR. Works awesome... great range... The Slave output from the Kontronik ESC goes into the SYS port of my BeastX... the other main ESC output goes into my Throttle channel of the 6 channel receiver... there is really no need for a receiver more than 6 channels...
Keep things simple.... The antenna's are placed exactly as shown in the TDR henseleit manual... just like the Futaba receiver.. for perfect reception... https://www.spektrumrc.com/Products/...odID=SPMAR6260
