Default CPII Parts

I"m about to trash the CPII for this is the 3rd time I have re-installed the horz sensor on my heli only yo have it jerked off. I have used 2 different types of double back tape and nothing seems to hold. I guess my next step is to "Glue" the sensor to my horz. fin using some strong glue. Or maybe use a zip tie around the sensor to hold it into place. Any suggestions or ideas. I have use the regular type tape from the LHS and then o bought some that is suppose to really hold good like 4 sq inches will hold 4 or 5 lbs.

If your going to glue it..use SHOE GOO... holds like a vise but can be removed if needed..
But use it sparingly.
One question..is this a nitro bird.? if so the fuel and exhaust(oil) is what is ruining your tape.

Clean everything extremely well then attach the sensor

You must be really beating the tail around to have it come off like that. CA might be an option but you can't beat cable/zip ties if that can be done without obstructing the sensor windows of course. The problem with tapes and pads is that as the weather gets warmer especially transporting in a car adhesive starts to give and it gets worse on nitro since the oil gets in and finishes of the job

There are wee slots on the side of the main sensor, I use small zip ties to secure..

I have a Trex 500 Electric and today the sensor came off just as it got airborne. I tried to put it back into place but it would not stay. I also cleaned the mating parts with alcohol before putting the tape on.Yea I was thing about using the shoo-gueee stuff

Have you considered using velcro? Make sure the surfaces are clean before you attach the velcro strips.

Actually ..Velcro would be a last resort ..too much movement due to vibration

I found that the adhesive on Velcro is weaker than the Velcro itself, you try and separate the items and the whole thing comes off. Maybe US Velcro is better quality than ours....

Man, I'm glad I don't have that problem. I got a tip from one of these smart posters on this flight stabilization thread to use an extra boom brace and snip down the horizontal fin (and rear rudder push-rod guide) and dedicate that extra boom-brace for the main sensor. Someone said to use the side holes as set-screw holes to help keep it in place. I didn't need to on the CF boom. Solid like a rock w/ that and 2 criss-crossed zip ties. Haven't had to make an adjustment yet

Use 3M's VHB tape.

You can get it from Home Depot. It's known as #4010 heavy duty Scotch Clear mounting tape. I mentioned this in another thread.

Very important to clean the surfaces with denatured alcohol (not rubbing alcohol). And avoid handling the tacky surface of the tape with your bare fingers. Handle it by the backing only.

This will stick and stay stuck, until you twist it off or peel it off. But it's not that easy to get it to release if the surface had been properly cleaned.

It's the same material used to attach certain windows on high rises, paneling, etc.

Well the reason mine came off this last time was because the tinny slots on the mounting block that holds the sensor broke. I had the zip tie really tight and then when the tail heated up everything expanded and the slots broke. But the double back tap was still holding the sensor to the block.
