I'm keen to hear how that Turnigy motor is performing for you.

A clubmate of mine has been flying that same motor in his Trex 550 for over a year now with excellent results. And I have the 880kv version of it in my Fusion 50 on 8S, and it has performed very well for me. If I build one of these HK550s that would be the motor I'd use!

Darn it! Another interesting kit to mess around with! Have the power system laying around (1100KV Turnigy motor / CC 100 ICE), S9254, BEC & receiver....

So...other than the main gear and head, what have you changed to make it flyable? I started with an EXI 500 couple of years ago and changed all shafts, gears & swashplate to bring it to standards...

Looking forward to a bit more "aggresive" sports flying report!!

I tool my heli apart to replace the Gear and found that the tail shaft bearing blew out. UGH! Im going to see if my 600 TT tail bearings are the same.

Ok, got my build done yesterday. Really impressed with the heli. The build went failry smooth and wiring is pretty clean. First spool up was perfect. Hoping to get to the field today!

Only things I replaced, were the main gear, the head, CF tail control rod and skids (like the lower stance of the F3C).

Cool

I had my first flight at the field today. I really didn't want to push it too hard on the first flight, so I did a nice short flight. The flight could not have gone better. Now I have to pull the flight logs, and check my amp draw, and temps. Also want to go over the entire airframe to make sure everything is ok and nothing came loose before my next flight. Here's the video:

Ha! I'd have to learn how to fly smack first! I'm running +\- 13 on the collective, and the tail is holding great!

So far so good on the motor! The first flight went great, and it seemed to have a ton of power! I didn't notice the motor bogging at all, but I didn't push it much. I'll push a little harder next time out.

Really only "needed" to replace the main gear since it was so warped. I only replaced the head because I wanted go flybarless. The flybarred head looks really nice though. The tail is really solid and smooth. Now we just have to wait and see how things hold up!

Snuck out to the field to get in another flight... even though it was VERY windy! Still loving this heli though...

I just pulled my flight log from today’s flight. My charger says that I put 3070 mA back in the pack even though the Castle logging says that I consumed 2450 mA. Not sure what is going on there, but I think the charger’s data has to be more accurate, so I’ll use its data.

I’m running 4500 packs, and I only want to consume 80% (3600 mA), so that is what I’ll use for the calculations below.

Today’s Flight:
- 440 seconds (7.33 minutes)
- 3070 mAh consumed
- 418 mAh / Min
- 1950 RPM Headspeed

Based on the above, I should be able to safely fly for 8.6 minutes (3600 / 418) @ 1950 RPM. This setup seems to be very efficient!!

my guess is that your charger did put in more 'mah', but some of it was cooked off balancing the cells.

The sustained flat spot on the power out, along with the drop in head speed is an indicator that your packs aren't up to the job near the end of the flight. I'm curious what the ripple was at that point.

Ahh... Well, that makes a lot of sense! I'll test the theory when I charge tonight. I'll just do a straight charge rather then a balance charge to see if the numbers between the charger and the flight log match better.

Yeah... I'm running Turnigy Nano-techs. They are supposed to be 35-75c, but they consistently come down hot (not warm). So, I think they are really overstating the C rating. Going to try my brother's Zippy 45c packs this weekend to see how they compare. They are coming down at ambient temperature on his machine.
