Default 700n dfc, os105 and ikon head wobble

Can an intermittent head bobble in a hover or punch out come from and untuned motor? It sounds and flies great I think, but i dont have a tuned ear either. I've played with cyclic gains a little, changed main, tail shafts and feathering. New tail boom, torque tube. Swash linkages have little to no slop. Blades are cyclone 700s new zeal 700s do the same thing.

Is the head balanced?
Is the shaft/spindle straight.?
Blade grips at equal tension.?
Tail balanced and grips equal?

If you hear the motor bog noticeably in the climb out perhaps but otherwise no.

Sounds like a programming deal to me.

What did you do in terms of cyclic gains in the iKon? In the advanced menus there are P, I, and D gains for cyclic.

With the I and D gains set low, you should tune your P gain first, finding the highest value at your highest headspeed without head wobble/shakes, etc. P gain is your overall gain.

Then you can tune in the I gain, which is the aggressiveness of the holding gain on the head. Again check for smooth head interaction during flight until you find the right value.

D gains are you stops. Tune this last and perform hard cyclic stops on both the Ail and Elev. If you get wobbles after a hard stop, turn the D gains down a bit.

After all this is done, you may have to go back and fine adjust the P gain one last time, but that should get you very very close. Test in a hover first, inputting cyclic to check for any irregularities and then engage in some forward/backward flight and some 3D to fine tune.

I thought is was a tuning issue also. I've replaced many parts so far: main/tail bearings, main / tail shaft, feathering shaft, tail boom / torque tude, tail gears, swash links, two diferent sets of 700 blades.

I believe the heli is mechanical sound. Though I do see the right tail boom support vibrate. They are KDE supports with the screws so I don't believe it's loose but I'll check again to make sure.

Thanks for the input guys. I'll double check blade tightness and move into ikon tuning and report back.

Thanks

I know mine had all kinds of strange wobbles and shakiness unti I got around 5 or 6 gals run thru my ys120sr,then a lot of things smoothed out.

I'm just finishing my 9th gallon on this 105 with no engine work done yet. I know I can probably lean it up a little and tighten up the engine tune. I'm in the middle of that learning curve as well. Other than working these few bugs out, I love this engine and heli.

On mine each gal it seems to be running a little smoother , which in turn the shakiness/ wobble gets lesser , I went back to the default 700 settings to start over , had to take out a little d gain on the elevator and it seems pretty good there

Tuning was going well until a high speed banked turn when my thumb rolled it over and into the ground for no apperent reason.

And the transition from tuning to rebuilding begins..

Yes that's for sure. It just kills me. I've been doing inverted cuircuits for a while, flying backwards all day and now I'm working on inverted backwards. Then to put it in on a simple high speed banked turn. Man I just don't get it.

So I come home and tell my wife what happened and she said: oh, I see, so it did exactly what you you told it to do. Toughen up chief!!!!

My 700DFC with a YS 120srx has a wobble that comes and goes in a hover. I was going to try a set of new dampers. It does seem to be getting better as I lean out the engine, I only have 1.5 gal through it.

Congrats on the flying!! Still working on Inverted forward and up right backward.

Just put a set of Trueblood green dampeners in my DFC 700N and my intermittent wobble is gone!! Even with the YS 120, not the smoothest running engine but great power!!!

That is great to hear! So I've got about the first half of my parts needed to rebuild and get back in the air. After reading your post you best believe new dampers are going on the second half of the parts list. Hope that does it.

Thanks for the update on that.....

I looked on the trueblood website and did not see the green dampers for the 700n dfc. Maybe I missed them. Where did you order yours from?
