Default Single Sat or reciever with Sat?

Hi . I can see that some people recommend using a Sat instead of a complete Rec/Sat with the 3GX. Can anyone explain why?

Is it wise to use just one Sat (all I have) on a 450?

To many connections and clutter. Got 7 channels use two sats.

As long as it's 'visible' from all angles.

I like to put my single sat on the AR bracket with the antenas pointing out either side.

If you don't have a nice location like that, an extra sat is $30... an extra kit is $400, your choice

it's not a question of wise...will a 450 work with a single sat? yes. is there a downside to using two? nope.

your choice. as far as the concern about shadowing, even with two sats on my 550s and 700s, there are plenty of times that that the antennas do not have direct line of sight witth the radio, but they aren't falling out of the sky. so to say that it has to be visible from all angles...i have to disagree with that statement.

I qualified it with 'visible'... not to the eye per se, but to the Tx.

I've been using the 3GX with only one SAT on my 450 for quite some time, and when I had the 3GX on my 550 it was with two SAT's.

Using only SAT/SAT's makes for a much neater wiring job.

With two sats my vbar shows antenna switching a few times a flight in the log. Ant. switching with just one, no, packet loss in mean while. Wires for the sats are know to fray and, or develope connection probelms. Been threw many new cables for my sats over the years.
30.00 for added insurance, hell yes.
