Castle Link fix for WinXP users
I download it, hitting run all the way through.
It goes through the installation wizard and stops short saying there is an error (unspecified) and I sould try another time. I went through the troubleshooting guide and downloaded and installed the repair software with no problem but the Link software still wont install. Any ideas?? Are you running Windows XP? I think this is the same problem I had..... the error message just says that installation has ended prematurely, that your computer has not been changed, and to try again later..... right? If so, after doing some research, what I found is that it's a problem that Castle has yet to solve. Therefore, at the moment, there only real solution for the time being is to download the version of the software that was used before the current software version. So that's what i did and I've had no issues.
here's the thread where i found the information and the link to download the relevant software: http://www.msuk-forum.co.uk/topic/14...link-software/

I have the latest version (3.51.05) running on Windows XP without any issue.
Make sure you have the correct permissions on your system for installation, or run the installer as Administrator.

Ya.... from the research i did i found that a lot of people running XP have no issues at all but that some do and get this unknown error message (if i remember correctly, all of those i read about were using laptops running XP).... but either way, castle says they haven't been able to re-create the problem at their facility and don't know what's the cause of it

IMO, the fact that it does install and run under XP suggests that it is not a problem with the software, but rather with the particular Windows environment. That can be a very deep rabbit hole.

I called Castle today and spoke with Dan Forbes. He emailed me version 3.41.1, which he said would work on my machine. I asked if I was still able to run firmware 4.01, and he said I would. I installed the old version without any problems. I'm about to hook it up to the ESC and see if everything else works. I'll let y'all know. http://www.castlecreations.com/downl...all_3.41.1.exe

Okay, not what I expected but everything works fine now. Here's what happened.
First I fired up version 3.41.1 and plugged in the Castle Link, got the green light. Plugged the CL into the ESC lead and then powered up the ESC, got an error message. The message said that my controller was not supported by the installed software and to update to the current software (3.51.05). So here's what I did: 1. Close out the Castle Link window. 2. Disconnect the power to the ESC and unplugged the CL. 3. Without Uninstalling 3.41.1, Run version 3.51.05 of the Castle Link software. 4. The new version removed the previous version and installed over it just fine. So I proceeded to run the latest version, reconnect the CL and power up the ESC, and all was back to normal. That wasn't too bad.

Just wanted to confirm that Bob O's process above solved the XP 'Castle Link software installation ended prematurely' issue for me too.. Installed the old version, then immediately installed the new version. Worked great.
