Default 600N clutch issue

Hey all,

I got a good deal on a 600N complete, but a little rough. While going through it I discovered the clutch bell had a little wobble so I replaced it with a new bell. Once I had everything together and flyable I note the clutch seems to engage at much too high of an RPM.

After talking to a buddy we determined (based on initial condition of the bird) it's possible there may be something wrong with the shoe, or even that it might be the wrong one. I ordered one and replaced it, but the old and new were identical. I don't think this was the problem. I ran across some old threads talking about the quality of the "blue" liners not being that good as it relates to the "gap", mine is a blue liner, but there is virtually no gap.

I assume the liner is really the only thing that it could be? So I guess my question is: did I get a dud liner, or do the blue liners just suck? What liner should I be running?

The stock liner can be on the thin side.

For the 600N, you can use the Align 700 clutch liner. It's thicker and works well.

I always use the blue liner. after new, my heli always engaged earlier or at the same time. I would recheck everything again if I were you, What apoxie did you use? how did the old clutch look?

The old clutch was fine but the bell was warped so I bought a whole new bell and used the liner that was installed in the bell. Its the stock blue align

The magic number for clutch happiness is 10. That is .010" clearance all around between the shoes and the bell housing. Or if measuring the diameter of the inside of the bell with lining installed and the outside diameter of the shoes, the bell should be no more than .020" wider or less in diameter. Tolerance is about -.002" or -.003".

With too tight a clutch you cannot get the machine out to the flight line without wrestling the alligator. I have never had a clutch that was too loose (and I have had an awful lot of them) so I cannot say how loose would be too loose to fly it.

If the lining needs to be reduced, you will need an engine lathe to adjust it. A local machine will do this for about $25.
