Default Power systems that work - READ first post

OK I thought I would start this thread out since many folks are still either looking for a better power system or testing some and thus can share it here for all to find easily!

PLEASE do not share stock power systems here. There are many posts that discuss how well (or not well) the Gaui motor, ESC and different packs work.

What we want here is MOTOR's, ESC's, and gearing / pinions and the data behind it.....

Please include:
Motor
Pinion and gear
ESC
Throttle curves
HEAD SPEED
Pack size
Blade size
Flight times, and style of flying
Opinion of performance and of course if you have a video that would be cool.

I will start out with my experiences in the next post.

OK here is my testing.

REQUIRED is the new GAUI motor mount with drive gear bearing!!!!

Motor = Century 600+ (about the same a Z30-1100)
Stock pinion and 42T drive gear
Century 80A ESC
Curves = Idle up 90,87,85,87,90 I tried higher but had a tail kick issues I need to fix
Head speed = with above curves was 2200
Blades - CF Mikado 500mm
Packs = 2500ma 6S FlightPower Evo25s
Flight time = 4 minutes hard 3D was 80% discharge. 4.5 minutes average 3D.

Performance was good at 2200 and I think this is a good speed for most people. For better 3D performance I think it still needs a bit more head speed. 2400 to 2500 maybe the sweet spot based on getting that with 100% flat throttle curve. BUT because of a tail problem (tail ocks / kicks) at those higher head speeds I couldnt test long enough to confirm.. Flip speed was way better at 2400 but the tail problems were not good. I had to drop to 2200 to stop the tail locks. Once I fix the tail we will see what 100% on this motor does.

Bob,

Really not quite sure where to post this but since it is a question about your setup I thought in here would at least get a reply from you.

So, since you are running these packs 2500ma 6S FlightPower Evo25s, how did you mount the canopy? It would appear that because of the size of those packs the canopy would not fit.

Reason for asking is because I just started using a 7S A123 battery pack and there is no way I can get the canopy to fit without some serious body work being done.

Arvid,

That is the 7S packs, those from InfinityHobby, I am running but the canopy just will not fit and that is why I was asking Bob about how gets the canopy to fit with the 6S LiPo stack he is using.

Oki doki there Mr. Finless, , I saw that post a while back but did not think or believe the canopy would fit. Glad to know that it does cause I am ordering a couple of them thar packs, FlightPower Evo25 2500ma 6S packs, right now. :mrgreen:

Thanks loads,

Carl

Update Mr. Finless - I have been searching the Internet this morning trying to find any FlightPower Evo25 2500ma 6S packs but for the life of me I am thinking they must exist.

Could you please let me know where they might be found?

Thanks.

OK those 6S 2500 packs were custom made for me sorry.... I did not know that! BUT 3S 2500's are standard packs. Go with two 3S 2500 packs and put one on the bottom and one on the top. Also i will be testing these 3S packs in my Trex450 too so might be a good combo for 2 helis

Bob what do you think of 4s or 5s 3300 packs with a 600L?

I have not played with the 600L motor yet but I plan to

but lets do some math.

600L is 1620 KV X 14.8V (4S) = 23976 motor RPM
So with your pinions if you wanted a resonable head speed of say 2400 or 2500 then your pinion with your 68T gear would be:

22T = 9.91 ratio / 23976 = 2419 head speed
23T = 9.48 ratio / 23976 = 2529 head speed
24T = 9.09 ratio / 23976 = 2637 head speed

Now multiple all of these head speed by .80 for effeciency.

24T sounds good but I might go 23 with this motor. Also voltage has dropped so current is up thus flight time will go down. I bet this motor with 3300 packs is going to be about the same flight time I get with the 2500 packs. Disk loading will be higher too! Not the best thing. 5S probably would be better so do the math for 5S but again disk loading will be up but the higher voltage may be very much worth it.

We need a motor that is a LITTLE bigger than the Gaui motor but about 1100 to 1400 KV and that is VERY effecient.

I will try the 600L myself a little later like maybe weekend after next. But I think this motor is too big (weight and size). I am also looking at a hyperion motor to try on 5S.

Bob,

How about THIS motor: http://www.bmkdesigns.net/Scorpion-3...or-pr-225.html
It seems to be a nice middle of the road wattage. It's what I was planning to try when I decide to step up. I know the owner of the web store so I can get a good deal on it. :wink:

A little low on the KV but Adrians gears will help that. What it doesnt say is how much voltage it can handle? You will want to run this on 6S I think. KV and watts doesnt tell you if it can handle 6S....

Gaui has a more agressive motor in the works. It is in testing now. I can't say too much about it right now...just stay tuned.

I am also thinking that a slightly smaller Z-power would be good like the Z20-1500 (1470kv). There are supposed to be some new Z-Power motors coming that might be a good fit too.

Nothing against Gaui but they need to NAIL this one this time.

I support this heli as I like it but they cant come out with another junk motor.

I am willing to test it and tell it like it is. I think people trust my opinion instead of some hype from marketing. People WANT this heli but I think many are holding back waiting for a SE version that doesnt have issues and is HOT...

Adrian, your gears are making this heli happen right now that is for sure!

ESC: Castle Phoenix 80
Throttle curves: Norm = 0-60-80-90-100, ID 1 & 2 100-100-100-100-100
HEAD SPEED: Norm: 1900 ID 1 & 2 2300
Pack size: 2 - 3S FP 2500's
Blade size: Mikado 500mm Carbon
Flight times, and style of flying: 5min, entry level 3D
Performance: This setup has more power than my Trex 450 with a Medusa 28-40-3400
