Exclamation HK now has a 550

https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=415051

I would stick with with the Align motor and servo's.

Take at look at any of the online shops and in the 550 section you'll see that many of the parts are listed 550/600

i don't mean to be rude, but this is an Align forum and you are asking questions about a non align product. I realize that it is a clone, but you made a choice to buy a clone and it's a bit tacky (imo)to solicit advice from those that have purchased through align.

if you google align 550 there are numerous compatibility threads between the 550 and 600 parts. Also, if you read the Align threads you will see previous discussions of what options there are for ESCs.

good luck with your build.

Motor and esc are a up to you, neither of mine are Align, in fact most of everything that was Align besides the cyclic servo's have been swapped out, so I guess mine's a clone too now

Made my day

My 500 is the only one in my collection that has mostly align parts, sans fbl.

For a hk550 build I would source esc/motor from HK as well, they even sell scorpion now. Align does have some good servos though,

Hmm,
This makes me thinking. Mine has some none align parts, e.g. ESC is CC ICE2 HV 80 (used to be Hobby Wing), KDE motor, tons of KDE upgrades, Savox HV tail servo, SK720 FBL, Tarot 2mm frame, EDGE main blades. Oh, none of the bearings is from Align. It is no longer a pure breed anymore

The majority of Align heli has upgrades with other after market parts. Do those qualify as Align? If mine still qualifies as Align, how about a HK 550 with Align tail fin?

I see nothing wrong with a clone heli asking question here. The moto of HF is to respect and help fellow heli pilots.

As to the motor options, the common ones are Align 600mx, KDE XF, Viper, and Scorpion. You may need to modify the frame to fit Scorpion HK4025-1100kv. On paper, the scorpinion is a down grade from 600mx. Thunigy has 600 class motor but I am not familiar with them to say anything.

Many choices on the ESC too: Align, Castle, Hobby Wing, Kontronik,... They all works. If you plan to swing 550 blade, you probably want to stay away from Align ESC. The V1 manual clearly stated not to run 17T pinion with 550 blades. Unless you are using Kontronik, external BEC or Rx battery pack is highly recommended to power your servos. If you choose this route, disable the red wire from the ESC plug.

Good luck

I understand this is an align 550 thread. I would have posted in a HK thread but i didnt see one. All of my Heli's are Align 450- 2 500 and a 600. I am a strong supporter of align.

How are the HK motor and esc? Also how are the Hobby wing esc?

I dont know if i will try to use 550 blades. I see someone on ebay selling a 70a esc and 1200 kv align motor. From the spec it looks like it would smoke the esc. Anyone have this setup?

Thank you for everyones input

If the heli is a true clone of Align then users will get the most help in Align forums.
We can't possibly have a dedicated forum for every clone, and why would we if they are the same or very similar and parts compatible?

Most Trex 450 clones are supported in the Trex 450 Forum and most members are happy to help there.

I have no experience with HK motors and ESC's but my guess is that they would be hit or miss on materials and QC.

Hobbywing ESC's seem to have a decent reputation, but again I have no personal or specific info on them.

I run the stock 70A ESC and 600MX motor with zero issues using 520mm blades on my flybar 550E.

Thank you! Do you know which 600 motor you have? Is it the 510 or 1220kv?

A lot of the hk600 used this motor with decent results.

I had good experience with they turnigy 500 heli motor in my Align 500.
I am with the other guy. This forum is about helping fellow freaks, not turning up our noses at something you consider, "not worthy".
We align users get the same thing in some other forums, so why turn around and do the same to someone with a clone.

I would buy ds610's for cyclic, as it is a very good servo with a great price for the 550. I am very pleased with mine.

Hobbywing esc's are very good for the price and the turnigy k force are rebranded hw.

Also I've heard the turnigy superbrain is pretty good, complete with data logging like castle.

I have the 1220KV motor since I run one 6S battery.
The 510KV motor is for a high voltage setup.

Really. The spec show it draws 90amp. You have no issue on a 70 esc? What is your setup for the stock esc?

I think the most important things contributing to my success with the stock ESC is that the heli is flybarred, I'm sticking with the 16t/520mm blade combo and I don't fly hard 3D (just basic circuits with flips, loops, rolls, piros and limited inverted).

Oh, and maybe a little luck.

Also consider that when this heli first came out Bert Kammerer also claimed to have no issues with the stock 70A ESC.
And I think he flys slightly harder than I.
