Hey Night, I was wondering why you chose to go with an 80A ESC in your big bird as opposed to a 120A with the 5020-450? I've seen people use each, but would like to hear your reasoning behind choosing one over the other.
Also, what kind of safe flight time are you able to get on this setup? (Without the lead of course).

The reasoning is simple, it works with no issues.
The amp load is well with in the limits of the ESC so why install a larger ESC.

I've changed the gearing so I need to see what flight times can be gotten.

Default The stage is set...

Been tweaking the 900E in order to go the last stretch to 1000...

The head has been tightened up allowing to drop the HS down to 1000 rpm in order to turn the new main blades that should arrive later this week along with a new HV system for the cyclic

I see the neighbors came home. Do you get on with them

Are you only running a single standard main gear from what I can tell.. Is that going to be strong enough - especially upgrading to 1000mm. I bet the torque is increasing as the scale goes up. Sometimes designers stack the gears for this reason.

Nice work and look forward to the big beast. Is there any end to this innovation (madness).

I have a set of 700 CNC main gears on order to replace the stock 600 main gear..
Short of ordering a new set of motors, these are the only gears available that will give the correct gear ratio..

Should work out fine, at this size, these machines are super cruisers so the stress will be at a minimum.

Cyclic is fitted and set.. a bit of a challenge to fit and configure the geometry for those outrage servos.
All the balls and links have been swapped out for 700 size hardware
130mm tail blades are set, main are fitted.
All that is left is to install the new Rx and HV battery...... Hopefully it will arrive tomorrow

Disaster plagued Castle East last evening..

The winds had finally calmed so it was time to break out the 1000E for its first test spool up.

It only lasted 47 seconds.......

It began well enough, spool up went smooth, no shakes..
Popped up into a hover about 5 feet off the deck, noticed a slight oscillation due to the gain settings on the FBL.
Then lost most of the cyclic control..
It slammed tail down faster than I could hit TH and hit the ground sideways.

Damage is quite extensive..
On the bench going through the extent of the damage I found the cause of the loss of cyclic control and crash.
The Elevator servo output shaft had sheared off at the case and was only being held together by the servo wheel screw.

Inquires are being made and hopefully answers will be forth coming early next week, concerning the failure and damages.

Sorry, to hear about the loss, Richard, but knowing you, the rebuild will only be better than the original!

That sucks that all that damage occurred due to the failure of an expensive Outrage servo. I just outfitted my new Fusion50 build with all Outrage HV servos. I guess I had better keep an eye on them!

Started going through my parts bins gathering up what I have on hand to begin repairs, contacted the supplier and hope to hear back early this week concerning the failure and damages

You can't venture into unknown territory with out having some trouble along the way.
Fitted up a new main shaft and swash, can't do much until I strip down the machine completely and have replacements on hand.

Do you think the servo output shaft may have been defective, or could the stresses from the 1000 blades be that great? My condolences on your loss, I wish you the best on the rebuild.

I'm 99.44% sure that the OUTRAGE servo was defective.. It was only a hover and if it was stress related I would imagine the 2 other servos would have sheared on impact which are outbound mounted.

That along with the fact I did lift a 28lb load lift using ALIGN 610's with no trouble and this was a no load spool up and hover.

The rebuild has begun.. but will take time

Thx pril,
Gotta crack a few eggs along the way... waiting to hear what the supplier has to say..

The operating table has been open and the tear down and rebuild has started.

Boom was bent, but thankfully the torque tube is not damaged, I guess it paid to make it out of stainless steel

Sorry to hear this Rich!

Guess things like this can happen when test pilots venture into the unknown
