Default Helical gear conversion on the whippy 90E

The old whiplash needed an upgrade. Didn't have the coin to go new 700EX .. Wish I did hear so much about it... But I said hey.. I can upgrade the drive train!! make it smoother ...

Ordered the motor mount, OWB and pinion, main gear, tail counter gear.

Just some pics of comparisons between my old and new parts

I have the helical system already installed in the old whiplash now. It needed a little modification on the lower pinion support bearing block mount holes (on the frame) .. Needed to be lengthened upwards.

The 12 tooth helical pinion basically set perfect gear mesh with the new main gear on the 13tooth straight (stock)mounting holes positions. So that was awesome. No mods needed on the tail end.. Mesh was great from the get go.

Few comparison images.. Hope they help. Ill post more pics of the gear train on the heli itself later and a video after

I was curious if this could be done with minimal parts... Still a $150 "upgrade" I never imagined buying..

does the new one way hold up?

Flight #2 .... Bird did amazingly well. The system was very much quieter than before!! Loved flying it. No wierd noises nothing.

Compare to this ::: first flight (ended badly..) but... Had straight cut gears

[ame]http://youtu.be/QOwP7JEQfnQ[/ame]

The family wanted me to do a flight for all of them ... A lot of the family was there. They hadn't ever seen me or any rc heli fly. So I was showing off a bit too hahaha

Hence the noises in the background

I too purchased the Helical Gear Conversion Package (#132-200). I couldn't believe the difference in the sound of the bird. It went from sounding like it was having bearing issues to sounding quieter than the rest of my helis. The mod was a piece of cake..Well worth the money and I had no problems with the battery positioning or electronics placement on the "old" Whippy so this was a no brainer for me...I get 2,000 with headroom governed and it has plenty of punch...

Costs a ballpark of 150 .. I am running 2100 I think and yes a good amount of punch .. with 2100 though I might be lowering my timer to 4:30 rather than 5minutes.

Love the bird even more now

Looks good and great flying as well. I'm planning on upgrading the gears soon. I've just converted it to a 800 (which ROCKS). I didn't realize the motor mount is slightly different to allow for the one way. Thanks for the pics.

It's not a premade kit , just buy 700ex parts

Sprague bearing with pinion
Main gear
Tail country gear
Motor mount

Install in old 700 and that'll give you helical system

No it is a package with a part number as I quoted. I bought it from MA, but others have it. Just put i the part number in a search engine (132-200) Whiplash Electronic Helical Gear Conversion. It is about $165. Far cheaper than buying a whole new heli.

What is the carbon plate used for in the conversion kit?

That is a drill guide to slot the motor mount holes in the carbon frames.

Yes it sure does. You wont have any problems with it. Just make sure you set the mesh correctly.

my new one way failed after two first tryout batteries with minimal load on the system.

First fly with the new gearset was great (just hovering in the garden). he second pack at the field saw vibrations that where growing in further ground tests.

I got a small "clang" every second. At later tests without tailboom and head the oneway simply uncoupled for some seconds... .
