YGE three-beep
today I was flying on mostly 1460 rpm and some 1660 and a little 1850 also with timer on 8 minutes.
Have never got the temp-warning on the ESC before but on the last flight when I played much I got three-beep when I landed. So that's a sign that I had too low HS I guess. It's 1460/2195 = 67% so that's like the bottom of the usable range. A little hard to decide if 1460 or 1660 rpm is the low sweet spot. What do you think? What's your "low sweet spot"?

My beeps too fast to count so no idea WTF going on and the manual is FOS - thank goodness I found ElektraRC version otherwise I'd be totally lost at sea - bout time they released one comprehensive accurate manual that covers all. Wasted a lot of time over not knowing the short lead was needed to program on the 160HV contrary to Progcard II and ESC instructions.

Are you using the YGE gov or the VBAR gov? Regarding temps, don't know what you have tried yet. Some measures to keep the temps done: - opening up heat shrink at the sides and at the mosfets - mounting the YGE with the mosfets to the outside as on the extreme - moving the YGE to the front, my 4525 is a primary heat source ;-) - small opening in canopy Still temps are high given the low outside temps. I have also tested with a heatsink+fan, that seems to keep the temp below 50c (I have put a telemetry sensor in between the boards.)

crane: vbar-gov
Great tips! Opening up the heat shrink could be a good idea.First I will try rise HS a little, 50/100 on all flight modes (also just for trying to find the best HS for hovering/soft 3D/speed)

Did you know you have to put break ON in your YGE to have
something close to a decent bailout? (from reading the settings out of an extreme 800 YGE160) It significantly improved my bailout. Ah here: https://www.helifreak.com/showthread...=381419&page=3

ok, haven't touched that. None of the vbar-setup guides says anything of this either so I guess brake on would not have negative effects. Great info!!

So you are saying the YGE does not like low RPM?
I want to get 160HV and use it with Vbar gov. I want to use RPM from 1400 to 1900, motor will be Scorpion 4525LE + 14T pinion. So, i will have problems doing soft 3D on 1400 RPM? I guess the opening will be around 50%. Also, there was some problem with slow start, something like the throttle must go over 75%, only then it switches from startup to Plane fast mode (or so). But i admit i did not looked at guides about how to set it with Vbar gov yet.

it seems like it doesn't like low % so much, but the canopy is quite tight. I think if you remove the shrink wrap. Put a heat sink there. And then put some shrink wrap or other protective thing, on right spots. You will do much better than stock but someone maybe can confirm this. Just a guess.
I haven't had problems with v-bag gov and soft start, only a little initial kick but that's not too much and I have got it better now so I can live with that. Maybe not lift off on ice

Danny, so the 3 beep is some kind of overheat due to partial throttle?
That is solvable, i was more afraid about general performance, the Jive is governing the motor right in any case, what i want to know is if i gear it for 1900 RPM with some headroom, if it will not fail to govern at 1400 RPM with the Vbar gov. This is something very TDR specific, because not much helis use wide RPM range. Thanks.

aha, yes the gov worked fine anyway, but I was only running as low as 66%, Pete wrote somewhere that it works best at 65%-80%, but outside that range I don't know, maybe it works just as good at 55% or so.
The 3 beep is just a warning that somethings not right with your configuration, and that is solvable yes the manual says.... Quote:

Pete says it will come some heat sinks to the YGE, like the one on Xxtreme. Maybe 1st week of may.

Today I was flying at 1460 alot again, to try my new 45C packs. That was interesting because it was noticeable different now. Less bogg and more torque. BUT... the ESC beeped at me again I will have to do something about this.
There was a quy there with a Kontronik Jazz w custom heat sink (Logo 400). That looked really nice and if they not sell a YGE heat sink soon I will fix an own

And it is really temp, not current overload?
The current is much lower when RPM is lower, but it might be sharp changes with high power demand causing this?

I don't know the motor is a Hyperion 4035-560 with this spec:
continuous: 4200 W / 100A peak: 5670 W / 135A so that might be a problem if the 120HV don't like higher peaks, should get a logger /edit: the ESC was a little warm but not so much I think (nothing like the motor )

I know.... I can do some soft flying, "power hovering" and see if it beeps, if it doesn't then it might be a current problem

What i am afraid is if it could be "compatibility issue" - bad match, YGE + 4035, we seen that with other brands...
Could be a problem only on partial opening.

ok!? ...hmm... better send a mail to Heino and ask.
Feels a little boring this, I like 1460 rpm. Could try and rise it just a little, to 1520 or something to see if it works better. Haven't tried so much actually, I just wanna fly /edit: for info, I have got the 3-beep one time on my 550 with 100LV but it was when I should try out my new monster setup so I guess I peaked too much there. Here it feels like it's not that problem, was flying soft 3D with good collective management and still got the beep.

The motor and ESC (Pyro 520 and Jive 120) in my TDR get pretty hot under the canopy. Haven't temp'd it yet, but the "finger test" implies it is as hot as the Scorpion motor in my Trex 700, which is pulling 2x the amps. I think there just isn't enough ventilation in the TDR.
