Default Tabb's Maxi rig

I saw a video that Tabb posted over on the "darkside". even though it's a test video related to an anomoly he is experiencing with the Maxi, it is 100% vibration free and I am impressed.

He's got a damn good rig there. He should be proud of it!

Tabb... please post it over here. maybe someone can help you with the noise you are experiencing.

The vid looks really dull here but on the bigscreen HDTV it is a blast to watch. You are right though I finally got it 100% vibe free

Thanks for the comments

I hear it... to me it sounds like what happens when two continuous tones of slightly differenc frequencies are played it creates a third "warble" tone.

like the sound you get when a twin engine plane has the props runnign at slightly diffrent RPM. that "whaaa-whaaa" sound

could it be a bearing(s) going bad??

DJ, could be I guess. Thing is I hear it way more in certain orientations which leads me to think the same thing as you. 2 different freq,s adding to a third. Gonna crank her up to 1400 tommorow and see if it is still there. I have only ever had one bearing go bad on a joker and that was the one on the CX that supports the shaft of the Actro...understandable since it gets hammered on all the time.

If it is a bearing it isnt spewing any RF because I range checked her at 100% today with no mains/tails with antenna down and it didnt lockout till 300+ft

On another note, god help me if I am going to edit video on my current machine. I am out of town shooting all next week but by the time I get home there will be something new to use because the HDV is just killing this thing and the stuff from the HVX isnt going to be any easier on it.

Tabb,
Ok listened to it through my noise cancelling ear buds and I can tell you the sound is there through the whole flight. It is real low at the begining though.

I am thinking it is maybe something rubbing, but it is a VERY low RPM item. Can't think for the life of me what on there would be turning slow enough to get that consistant tone.
I also am of the opinion it could be electronic in nature maybe the speed controller giving off a weird tone out when the caps are cycling????

It sounds a lot more consistant on the video than the day I was up there so I think it is throughout all the orientations.

This is going to be a fun one to chase.

I am still not completely ruling out the motor bearings either. Maybe loading and unloading????

One other thought is a weird harmonic between your fast moving tail blades and the mains??? Causing the air to move rythmically around something on the ship.
I know it did it even with the canopy off so maybe the main frames?
I guess the 1400 check would be able to rule that out.

dinging fixed! Turns out I left out some shims on the front idler for the tail belt and it was making intermittent contact with the belt and some weird resononance was the result.

Thanks for the input all

hey that's good news. it's always something simple isn't it?!!?!?

don't feel bad about the shims.... about 6 years back I forgot to put the servo wheel screws in a Miniature Xcell 60. got about 2 minutes into the flight and you can imagine what happened. it wasn't pretty.

good to hear your Maxi is back at 100% health. I still havent got my CX yet but I'm getting really stoked.
