Default RAVE ENV Thrust Bearings ??

Having an issue with only one of my main grip thrust bearings. It keeps backing the bolt out that holds the grip on and yes I used red loctitie. Not sure why but the thrust bearing in it's brass cage looks like it got crushed too. The other side is perfect. Almost seems like feathering shaft is a bit short. Anyone have any other suggestions? What was the tape mod that I read about, would that help stop this?

I am not home now but when I get back I will measure the cross shaft length and post it. Not to sure why that would happen ? Take it apart and make sure you have it assembled correctly. Are the washers in the correct position. Larger diameter vs smaller diameter ?

The tape mod you talked about is to help the rubber dampers from protruding into the Center of the hub. This makes them last longer. I used some layers of shrink tubing.

Thanks Ken. I'll pull it all apart and see what I get. It did the same thing last year and I had originally thought I forgot to tighten it. Put 2 new sets of thrust bearings in it to be sure and reassembled. Did the same thing again and its the same side. If its all assembled correctly I should be able to crank down the cross shaft bolts and still have nice free moving grips right? Thanks for the help. Last 2 summers I have ran about 6-7 gallons thorough it each summer. The bearings should last longer than that or not?

Yes, you should be able to tighten the bolts and the grips should move freely.

The cross shaft measures 98mm long x 8.96mm thick.

On the inside of the blade grip you need to have, head damper, spacer 9 x 12 x 1.7 mm, radial bearing.

On the outside of the blade grip you need to have, a radial bearing, a spacer 14 x 17.25 x 1 mm, the large I.D. bearing race, the thrust bearing, the small I.D. bearing race, the washer, the cap screw.

Thanks Ken that exactly what I followed. I ended up getting it back together and it seems nice and free. Maybe had it slide too far one way in the head block. I'll start flying it here pretty soon but I think I'll need to keep a check on those cross shaft bolts. I can only imagine how ugly it would be if they let go in flight.

I just assembled my 635 head and the blade grips move very smoothly. Just locktight the bolts and you shouldn't have a issue. Make sure the threads are clean and no grease gets in there when you assemble and locktight the bolts.
