Default Thurst Bearings

How do you determine if your thurst bearings are still good?

Thrust bearings in your main grips are a low rpm scenario. They don't go bad often.
Simple inspection during maintenance should turn up anything
like a busted ball race. Look at the cost. $5.00ish, I bet, for a
set for your grips. Any questions about it...replace it.
'Taint 'spensive.

And if you mean main bearing block thrust washers then
I'd recommend doing away with the bearing blocks and
put in I2 bearing blocks. They have a HUGE bearing in them
and no thrust washers at all. It's The Better Way.

What about the tail rotor bearings?

I inspect mine every time I bend a tail shaft. I stick a pencil tip into
the bearing and use light pressure and twiddle the pencil. Any sign
of feeling gritty and they get replaced. I find it always helps to run a pencil
into a brand new bearing and feel how smooth it is - I do that right before
I test any bearing. Makes it real easy to spot a bad one.
