I got a call from Chris the other day all "giddy" with how well it was flying...even with my marginal motor choice...the plan was to be using an Actro 32-4 on 12S...but my Actro has been in Germany for 6 months being repaired! Grrrr...and as always...these motors are hard to find...if anyone has a hook up on one or two...please PM or call Chris...

Right now the set up...at least motor/speed controller and batteries as I am not sure what the final gear ratio ended up being...

Motor: Hacker A50 14L
ESC: CC HV-110
Batteries: Duralite 12S 7500mAh Li-Manganese.

Sat we were running 1310 RPM which sounded low ,,but flew great and got unoffically over 17 mins ... we raised the RPM to 1450 Sun and timed it at just 15 mins but did several untimed hops to set the RPM on that pack ... we are still playing with settings and such ,,but it looks like around 15 mins for now, but we are going back to the 1310 the next check .
Chris is busy ,but trying to get the video we took Sun posted on his forum ,,I just checked and they are not up yet .

Greg and Larry are absolutley correct!! I am tickled to death so far with the performance of this thing.

Greg's calculations for the equipment that we are currently using have so far proven 100% accurate.

The only dissapointment to this point was my initial stubbornnes on where to locate the batteries, which required way too much nose weight for CG. Relocating them to a more central location has allowed some weight to be removed, which of course has increased the flight times.

We still have more R&D to do, Shaun from Hacker is sending us a bigger motor to try, we will continue with the weight loss program as well

The Li-Manganese batteries from Duralite have been tremendous. They are 7600 MAh 12s packs, 22 volts. So far we have recharged them a dozen times typically putting 7400-7500 back in. That's right, we are using that much out of each pack with so far no reduction in flight times, no heat from the batteries either after flying OR recharging at 6amps using the Orbit charger from Duralite and their balancing module.

Some of the test video, shot with NO cameraman, my elcheapo sony handycam, no gyros, just push record and go fly, out over a local lake.

A new camera is in the works, so look for some better quality videos in the future.

the video looks great

what is the KV of that A50-14L ?

does it get hot like the other A50 series motors ?

have you logged it on an eagle tree logger to see if you are loosing flight time due to high motor temps ?

what is the RTF weight with the sony camera you used to shoot the vidoe at the lake at 15 minutes flight time

Chris,

Looks good! Of course, you probably realized that an emergency landing in the lake wouldn't have been too good for the electric. LOL

The specs on that motor are 300 Kv. The temps we've been pulling off are typically 180 degrees after a 10-15 minute flight. The batteries are room temp at 88 degrees, as is the CC HV 110 speed controller.

We have the datalogger, but only to measure the amp draw. I do not have a motor temp probe, but if you send one, we'll try it out!!

All up weight is RTF is 22.45 Lbs, with camera.

The amp draw with NHP 800 mm blades is hovering around 27-28 amps at 1290 to 1310 headspeed. I hope to try a set of V-Blades 810's with the new TST to see how they compare.

Recharging the batteries typically takes 1.5 hours per at 6A, putting 7400-7500 back in the 7600 MAh batteries.
