Default Blade SR and SR Huey

As many know there are pro's and con's to the BSR but despite the con's I love this little heli! I find it fast and manuverable and just fun to fly. From what I read on this site I pretty much knew what I was getting into and don't regret the decision to buy one. Since I only fly sport/scale circuits with no 3D the electric tail motor is fine. I can fly it fast in many circuits at our club field and even get some distance away since installing the red canopy with the orange tail fins.

I was at an estate sale awhile back and found one there for sale and didn't really need another one but they only wanted $40 for it and it was in new condition. I decided to buy it and then bought the huey fuselage and parts for it at my LHS. Put it all together one evening and it flies fairly well but I find it feels somewhat heavy in the air. I tried a Turnigy 1300mah lipo but it only added to the already over weight heli, so I'm back to flying it with the 1000mah. It looks cool flying with the LED navigation lites flashing.

I've tried a few different pitch curves and for sport/circuit flying I found that 26%-44-64-78-84 gives me blade pitch of -1 at low stick +6.5 at mid stick and +10 at high stick. With this it flies smooth and predictable.

If your new to flying collective pitch heli's and have a SR and are experiencing trouble, it is definitely worth getting a programmable radio like the DX6i. Last summer I bought this radio and setup my SR on it, and it was much better. Learned to fly smooth circuits in only a few weeks. I also have a B450 which I got for xmas and it flies really well, wish I had started with the 450 size but no matter it's a learning process not too mention great fun!

All the best!

Here's my first flight after a rebuild and Cedrons dx6i settings. Finally feels like it should. Not gonna sell it anymore. The first times I tried out the Sr I didn't know anything about rc helis and I found out pretty fast that this one was going to sit on the sidelines for a while, so its nice to have it in the air.

Dont hate, still getting a feel for it.

Default Blade SR mods

Hi guys- just thought I'd share a few mods with you that are a little easier on the wallet. Many of you are probably aware of these but I'm using this post to try and figure out how to post as I have been reading for some time now and have the urge to contribute something. I have two Blade SR's, one CP and the other converted to FP (i'll show you that one later if I figure this out). I also have a couple of ESKY Honey Bee FP v2's that have taught me lots. I am currently using many ESKY parts on my SR's as they are considerably cheaper - provided you can get them. There are four colors of canopies that will work, two from the HBFPV2 and two from the CP3 and they are only $5.00. They are a direct fit and allow more room for the battery. Depending on what batteries you use, you may have to trim the canopy where it meets the front frame. I also like to use Trex 450 Sport canopy grommets as they fit the stock canopy mounts much better and make the canopy real easy to take on and off. If you like, you can stay with the ESKY grommets that come with the canopy. They are tight on the stock mounts or you can use a piece of 2mm carbon rod like ESKY does. The tail boom fron the FPV2 also works perfect and is only $3.00. You will have to make a couple of notches in the boom to fit the SR frame. Along with the boom I use CP3 horizintal fin and boom supports. They are cheap and look great. They provide more support for the boom as well. I will substitute Trex 250 boom supports when I can't get ESKY. Moving on to the tail motor mount you have two choices. The stock plastic mounts for the FPV2 and CP3 are plastic and come in two colors. They are a little fragile but again, very cheap. I started using the CNC aluminum upgrade for inly $3.00 or $4.00 bucks but you have to buy or mod a vertical fin for it. These parts can be painted as I have to suit your tastes. This SR also has Xtreme blades, Microheli head, Hitec servos, and Blade 400 skids. I am not into 3D but for some reason I think this heli is great. I am well aware of the love/hate relationship with the SR but this heli has taught me the basics of CP flight and setup that I will use on my 450 Sport. They are cheap to fix and fly pretty decent when setup properly. I will attach some pictures and links for the parts. I like to deal with Helidirect when I can, but ESKY parts seem to be getting harder and harder to hind - you will have to look around. Also, shipping to Saskatchewan, Canada can get pricey. I hope these links and pictures work!

I know alot of these parts are on backorder but canopies just came back into stock not too long ago so maybe more product on the way. If you google ESKY parts there are numerous sites selling the stuff but it's pretty hit and miss. Hope these work this time............

Default Fixed Pitch SR

So I mantioned I would show you my FP Blade SR. Why would someone do that? Well as I said earlier, I had a SR basically given to me (damaged) and I also have a couple of HPFBV2's. I wanted the programability of the DX6i to use with the FP design and the SR frame and electronics gave me the perfect platform for a little R and D over the winter months. I used the main gear, mainshaft, swashplate, and all the head components from a HBFPV2 including servo to swash links. I also ordered mainshaft bearings to fit. I won't get into too much detail (unless someone wants more info) but up until now, I've just hovered it on the driveway. It is very stable but of course has to be flown in little or no wind, one drawback of FP I guess. I will mount my cheapo camera on it and see if I can get some stable footage. Gotta keep stimulating the brain you know...........Dave

Great Stuff Riprom ! I like the way you think. Thanks for the info.

BTW. You can edit your post instead of making another. I too have had trouble with live links when I post on HF.

Awesome mods there Riprom. I could use a less-taped canopy, so I'm tempted by the cp3 canopy. Good looking boom supports too, I think the boom supports help a little with stability. Here is a pic of my SR currently, and a vid of it w/ lights. Apologies if you've seen this pic already, I might have put it on a different thread before.

Mine is nothing special, but after I get a little better I'll be ordering the UH-60 body for it. going to be a fun conversion..

I got the blades and tail blade from my friends UH-1 which is currently out of commission thanks to being a little to eager. sad part is all of his nuts are too tight and partially stripped out now.

You should really flip your vertical fin over because if you land it tail first now, you will smoke the tail motor and other related parts. All you have to do is put the screw in the one hole that lines up and then drill a new hole in the fin for the second screw. Just try to get the fin some what vertical like it was stock first before making the new hole.

FYI, might be better to orient longer side of your training gear to side to side rather than front and back. Heli will tend to be more tippy to sides for most starting out.

Cool Vid. Those B400 skids work really good on the SR.
Also, the wind seems to be calming down a bit so I am going to try and get some vid of day testing my Night SR as well as some night flying.

Jumna, nice set-up, but was just wondering if there is any thing special about the way you re-mounted the gyro, in a flat position other than standing up.
