Default Which Futaba Heli Receiver????

Been thinking real serious about switching over from Spektrum to Futaba lately. The more info I read and videos I watch on Futaba, the more I want Futaba. Anyway I will be switching my AR6210 in my Beam E4 to a Futaba(?) receiver, will the R617FS be a good choice for my 450? I have Hitec 65mg cyclic servos so don't have to worry about digital and won't be using the SBus system. I am looking at the 8FG Super radio (minus receiver since the 8 channel is over kill for my birds) TIA for any advice!!!

The 617FS is a great receiver. For a 450 don't rule out the smaller and cheaper 6106HFC. While not advertised as "full range" it certainly is for a 450. I wold not put it in a 90 size heli and fly out to the limits of my eyesight, but a 450 flown normally is going to be fine.

That said, I have a 617 in my Trex 550 and it is doing a great job.

Another point, although you said you don't need 8 channels, the 8FG is really a 14 channel radio now with the FREE software update. If you purchase new, it will most likely be the 8FG Super (still 14 channels, but with slightly longer sliders). Also, the R6208SB RX that comes with the unit would be fine for the 450.

+1, I use it on my TDR and a 6106HFC on my T500 and love both.

I think the 6106HFC would be a great rx for my SR since it won't need a super amount of range and the smaller rx on it the better. Thanks for the info, much appreciated!!

I thought about just getting the combo so I wouldn't have to buy a rx, but the 6208 is a bit big to stuff in my 450 plus I wanted to stay away from an endpin rx to make the wiring easier. It could be done but I want it to be as close to a plug and play as possible with out re-routing a bunch of wires, I know I'm lazy....haha. Thanks for the info!!

Hope they get stock in before the free rx offer expires, this would solve all my problems switching over to Futaba!!

Thumbs up Get the 617

I've used the 617 in both my TRex450's and now I'll use one in my
(new to me) TRex550 FBL with MicroBeast.

The 617 is a great little receiver and the first 4 channels are
superfast if you use digital servos or something like that.

I like the somewhat long antenna cables, which make it easy to put
them outside of the carbon fiber chassis.

Cheers
Erik

I use the 6208SB RX that came with my 8FGS on my 450 with no problems. It's actually not that big and I have it velcro'd to the left side under the main gear. Not the prettiest installation but it fits fine. The two antennas are taped to the landing gear to give me the 90 degree seperation. Probably not very safe for the antennas in a crash, tho, so I eventually plan to relocate them somewhere else a little better protected.

So if you get an 8FGS, you can use the spiffy RX on the 450 too if you want to.

Thanks for the info, that's good to know since I just ordered the 8FG super last night..... I've measusred the receiver and frame on my Beam E4 and the 6208sb will sit on the bottom plate between the frame sides and still be horizonal. It will stick out the back just a little but not enough to be in danger in a crash. Thanks again!!

Yeah I thought about putting mine inside the frames on the bottom, but it was too much contorting of the wires, and just a general pain in the butt. It was easiest to just velcro it to the outside under the main drive gear. I have the ESC velcroed to the other side in the same place.

Like I said, ugly, but maintenance and checking of wires, etc., is super easy...

617 would be fine. If using SBUS you may want to consider the 6203, smaller, cheaper and supporting HV servos.

Edit: ok, reread your post, you're not going to use SBUS.

I've just moved from a DX8 to 8FG. Really pleased with the move - wasn't too hard to work out the 8FG programming, and lots of great options.

To get to your question, I have gone with the R6203B 3 channel sbus receiver.

This is a great combo with the Skookum SK720 FBL using sbus as it is sort of the equivalent to using satellite receivers with the SK720 (when I was using Spektrum).

I know you said you don't want to use sbus, but keep it in mind for future helis. great choice for a heli using the 8FG.

Thanks for all the info! I'm not running FBL so that one wouldn't do me much good. I am going to install the R617FS on my Beam E4 and I bought a R6106HFC for my SR. Getting ready to install the 6106 in my SR, just need to find the time to get it done. I'll probably sell the R6208SB that came with my 8fg since it will just sit in the drawer and collect dust. Thanks again.

I wouldn't sell the R6208SB just yet. As you see, it is a receiver that you could put in just about any model. I actually had one in one of my 450's just to play with it. And if you ever get into any of the S.Bus features, such as the GY-520 or GY-701,you will be ready to go.

I'd be interested in it. Can offer a 617 for it or whatever you want to work out. Please drop me a line if you decide to sell it.

I use the 607 and 617 on my 450s and they work great. I mount the antennas like this.

I use a short piece of antenna guide so that if a crash yanks the tail boom struts or landing gear off they will slip out easily and not pull the receiver off the bird.
