Default Introduction - Helibug Power Generation

Its obviously not a helicopter however it does use a gas engine

its a mobile self contained 36 volt 500 watt 3 phase or 120v single phase generator based on a zenoah RC format engine and uses an axial flux generator.

Looks like its available now: Powerbug Powerflux

there is also a version more appropriate for helicopter use

Powerbug for Helicopters

its heavy at a little more than 1lb but its actually thinner than a std pull start mechanism. Still need a regulator for it

In a world where $90 can get you the 700watt harbor freight special he is going to have a hard time competing on cost.

Edit - Question... What can you actually use with 36 volt 3 phase power???

Default well my 2 cents

the zenoah is a better motor than the diamond china engine in harbor frieght....had one for years, took a Little starting fluid to get her running all the time....very low compression engine

and power is very unstable.....you run a light bulb off it and it pulses

granted they upgraded from the 4 stroke i had to a 2 stroke engine, but i wont waist my money again

With helibug you can use a stock 29cc motor, it can vibrate to hell and back and it won't matter, except that the unit might try to walk off!

Yeah I guess so, but 29cc isn't going to make the 500-1000 watts some of these guys pulll fast charging 700 packs.

Then you have to listen to it a few feet away for hours.

Honda inverter gennys are popular for a reason.

Fantastic field generator for the price. Its not too heavy, pretty quiet, and reliable.

I updated the original post, now there is a smaller version that replaces the pull starter on a Zenoah engine

Helibug always come with brilliant and surprising ideas. The heli generator needs a housing tho.

yeah looks like it

well, kickstart has successfully funded a bunch of projects and anybody can start a campaign. Looks like he wants to raise about $60K to make these in volume. I'm not quite sure what the market for this is but then I'm not in the power generation business
