Need info on gearing for 700 E conversion please..
I am looking to use the helidirect conversion for the 700 with the 560 scorpion motor and wanted to know if I would need to change my main gear on my stock 700 now.
Do I need a different pinion on it, teeth, or the one that I already have on the nitro will do ? If I need to change it can you suggest one and also the pinion I would then need for the motor ? Thanks in advance.. |

Recommend reading through the various threads for what works and the reasons why..
The 4035-560kv is a tricky motor, as it easily strips main gears due to the high kv and low gearing, with shaft snapping issues. Personally, I will be running the 4035-400kv with 13T mod1 on the stock 8mm shaft in fixed end points. This addresses the high kv, poor meshing, shaft snapping and flight time issues.

How can you tell whick gearing will affect flight time. I know you lose flight time with larger pinions but if you go from a 13 tooth pinion with a 115 tooth main gear to a 18 tooth pinion with a 164 tooth main gear will you lose flight time? Will the esc have to work harder? |

The higher the ratio, the more load is but on the motor, the shorter the flight time. Due to keeping the same ration, a stock 164/20T would have the same ratio and flight time as the new Align 115/14T mod 1 kit, with the Scorpion 4035-400kv motor. The 4035-400kv with a stock 164/20T setup has proven to be a cheap, powerful and reliable setup.

After reading a bit on the setups, how about the 115t main gear with the 500 motor and a 13 or 14 tooth pinion ?
The speed calculator gives a bit over 2000 rpm and I guess I can use the gov. mode of the ESC for a target speed of about 2000 ? |

If not I guess I just need to stop doing hard punchouts or get rid of the zippys. |

Thanks again for the reply, just need to ask you about the watts you mention. Keep in mind I have no idea about these numbers and what they mean. Is 3500 watts a good thing or a bad thing then ?
What would be the difference in flying times or heat issues between the 400 and 500 motors ? Assuming we are targeting around 2000 rpm, I see I should use a 15 tooth pinion I guess. Let me know if you can if I assume right, and also I appreciate your input on this. It has helped me understand more. Mario. |

With out-runner motors, the lower the kv value, the more efficient the motor can be. Basically, the rpm's the 400kv motor produces is similar to a stock nitro engine, so similar gearing can be used. Higher kv motor basically revolve faster, so require a smaller pinion to gear them down, but introduce the gear stripping issue. Quote:
Highly recommend looking into this setup, they have had great success. https://www.helifreak.com/showpost.p...50&postcount=5

THANKS A LOT for the explanations. Finally I can understand a bit about the motors and not just follow suggestions.
I appreciate it. Mario. |

Just for info you care, I pulled just shy of 6200 Watts today with my hacker A50-14L 540kv. From what I could figure thats just over 8.3 horsepower.
