Bell? - MAH 850 mm?

Hi Bell, I remember reading somewhere that you are running MAH 850 mm mains? Do you have the stock Condor boom? Any problems with the mains hitting the tail blades?

Hard head damper rubbers, Condor tail boom, MAH G2 tapered blades, Max 1400rpm headspeed, speed up gears on the tail, job done!!
Yes the mains overlap the tail, but in 4 years and 2 helicopters they have never touched, even when being chucked around.
I expect many here will say don't do it, but I have done many things that go against the norm.
But then if you want to BE a 'Norm' then.....don't do it.

Bell Bloke, If you have the stock plastic tail and 105mm carbon tail blades then you are 1 to 2mm out of the tail arc with the 850 G2's fitted so no worries there Deron .

Sorry to dispute this but I think you will find you are just over, Renfru.
The way to look at this is to stick a bit of card to your existing blades and make them 850mm, then tell me what you think. In anycase it works just fine with 850mm and you could probably slope soar the thing with the engine off on these blades, and for a nice scale look you can run them at 1200rpm on a calm day

I checked it with string from the pivot point, I say it misses you say it hits - either way it's darn close.

810v blades are fine ;-)
It's good to get away from the 710mm blades when you can, but don't get the Rotortechs as they are well over priced and in my opinion not as good as the MAH G2.

I was just curious about the 850... I saw they were only $20 more than the 820. I was looking at the V blades as well, but haven't heard anything about them. How you they fly? How's the quality?

Hi Bell, these were my options I was looking at:

MAH 810mm Dual Taper $240.00
V-Blades 810mm 14/4 $250.00
RotorTech 810mm CF $259.00

To be honest, I only ever tried RotorTech, but I'd be willing to try something else...

What's the general consensus on the above or others?

Vblades are really nice blades. They are well made and balanced. They are very stiff and when doing mild 3D or hard 3D (not in my hands) they fly great. If you watch the video of Ron Keith or Greg Alderman you will see how well they perform. It's the primary blade used on Bergen Turbines and mostly Bergen Gassers. I've never had a Vblade I didn't like. My only complaint is they are a bit expensive.

I would try and demo all 3 sets, then you can tell us which is best and why.
My money would be on the MAH or the V Blades, and to be honest the 810mm is better on the Predator than the 850mm which does slow the response times down a bit and is not so good for bad weather flying. They are great if you are a bit of an auto demon though.
All I know is that the MAH G2 blades are better than the Rotortechs, the NHP s and way better than the SAB blades. I feel that they make the Predator feel very stable in the wind and yet very agile.

I can vouch for the NHP 800's as that is what I flew on my Pred, I chose these based on cost to purchase as it was in the days before we knew 800's were a sure thing.

V's are meant to be very good from what I have been told, very stiff and hence nimble but pricy to.

RotorTech's, as Bell has said lovely blade but pricy. All RT blades do seem to fly very nicely though.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I just ordered a set of NHP 800mm. The price was good and I won't be doing anything too demanding for the first little while (in the spring), so they fit the bill (figuratively and metaphorically ).

I'll be hovering and some circuits, so they should keep me happy.

I have 810s on all three machines and they are very smooth and well balanced. I had nhps and found them to be soft and wouldn't track as well. If I remember correctly the last pair was around 250. usd. Yes a bit pricy but I think worth the diff..

NHPs are good and they are cheap, I found them to be fine. in 1-2 years time when you are really blasting around the sky, then you might want to try the Vs or the G2s :-)
