Default Question of Head Speed

Hi forum,

Question regarding the online calcs...

I have my T-rex 250 clone, and I enter the values into various online calculators, and it gives me a headspeed. This bit I get.

If I check my heli, with a magic mirror, at say... 80% throttle, and work in this 80%... I don't get the head speed I'm expecting.

I know there's efficiencies etc... but take the Align manuals. They mention a headspeed... is this at 100%??

Is this a target or if my heli is flying OK, and below the threshold for blade destruction... is this ok?

My magic mirror shows the head speed at 0 pitch on my 250 at 80% throttle is 31xx something ish. The Align manual says it should be around 3450?? So is this right?

Ta

If your heli is flying nicely, don’t worry about it.

I am using a Talon 15 on my T-Rex250 DFC Pro and I am running governed head speed of 4000 – 4300 and 4700 with a 16T pinion, love it.

The headspeed is the headspeed, regardless of throttle. If flying at 80% throttle , you would want a pinion that would achieve 3400-3500 at 80% throttle, assuming your clone requires a similar headspeed. It sounds like you need a bigger (more teeth) pinion.

Small helis always with maximum headspeed, therefor throttle curve could be:

0,95,95,95,100

I don't use a governor.

The high head speed stabilizes a small heli better in wind.

Cheers all

I don't think I'll worry too much about it then.

250 is in bits again after a small incident Got most spares though, just waiting for new skids. Learning quickly that it doesn't fly like my 450

Nice training tool in calm weather though, which currently, in the UK, we're FAR from!
