Help Diagnose Scorpion 160A Shutdown
I have a Thunder Tiger E820 14s setup with a Scorpion HKIII-5035-380KV motor using a Scorpion 160A Commander OPTO ESC. The Scorpion 160A ESC appears to be shutting down for reasons I'm not 100% sure about and need help. I believe it might be current related. I'm using the V-Bar governor it is programmed for 10 poles (5 pairs) and the 111T main gear 12T pinion ratio (9.25).
I hear the following high-low two-tone beep after landing and the ESC won't throttle up:
I do not have the the LED for this ESC so I can only go on the beeping alone and the Scorpion 160A manual only categorizes the error codes by LED unfortunately. The weather has been a regular 15°C to 20° for these flights so this is not a hot summer's day flying. The cut outs have ocurred at any point in the flight even early on before much heat has generated. Using Hitec Aurora 9 electric telemetry, I have the following data points on this 14-cell setup: • At a low 1300RPM, the heli hovers at 13ASome system specs: • Thunder Tiger E820

Mine did the same thing today. Running 12s and I changed the gov speed in my throttle curves to a lower head speed and it did it again. Not sure what's going on as the scorpion esc paperwork is extremely vague and you have only 2 options for over current protection. On or off.
I have had 15 or so flights on it no issues and now it starts doing this. Not sure what's going on.

Any update on this issue? I'm thinking about building an E820 and I am considering the 5035-380/Commander 160 ESC combo, although I would likely run the ESC gov. If the Scorpion ESC is problematic, I'll just spend the extra $$$ for a Kosmik.

I've been flying for over a month now and no more cut outs. To clarify, it was never a total cut out but the ESC would lower throttle level to a very low level. It could be crashable if you're low and inverted and don't realize the throttle is coming down.
Its been so long I don't recall exactly what did fixed it. I do remember though adjusting the LVC (Low Voltage Cutoff) to lower value and also adjusting the PCT (Program Cut Type) to "No Cut just LED warning". I wanted "Pulse warning" because there's no way I can see the tiny LED in flight. However, "Pulse warning" had no effect whatsoever. I'd still like to know though if the video I uploaded was due to the "amp limiter". That would require more work and possibly more money to fix.

I had to borrow a buddy's v link cable and adjust my over current protection to insensitive and it cured my issues. Mine was set at sensitive and after discussing this with innov8tive designs they told me that the OCP could be adjusted via the v link.
It's great esc and so far I'm loving the setup in my agile 7.2

I just installed a commander 130 opto, v6 on my E5S, with Savox 550kv 12s motor,rated at 95a.
Set LVC to 384, and goes to a Di,DO Di, Do, Di, Do ....... so lowered to 360 and it stops. Basic default settings, no gov, just to test for basics. Spool up on bench,(blades off, of course), th set 0-65% , spool up and as it hits top, red light comes on and shuts down? Getting a Do,Di, DO,DI, tone and led switches red/yellow,,so on. WTF??

There is a over current drop down menu on the main page of the scorpion page. Mine was set at sensitive you click the drop down menu and there is sensitive normal or insensitive. I went for insensitive. Told it to write to esc and we were ready to test fly. It was very easy to do.

The shut down only happens on bench with blades off. Assuming with no load it's just overspeeding. Still need link, OOS everywhere. Otherwise got2 flights on it so far and all is well. need to set gov and dial in now.

I'm certain this overly sensitive current protection had a part in my initial problems. I remember my maiden flight with this ESC was with low RPM and just hovering. Yet just after about 1 minute of flight, the ESC went into 50% power mode and the heli started to descend. When I landed, the ESC was beeping with those tones in the video. The battery was only 90% used and nothing was overly hot. The current protection that is now set to "insensitive" should help avoid this problem.

Yeah, unfortunately you'll need the V-Link cable for the PC to update the ESC's firmware. I also have the IR programmer and that thing is awful to use. I ditched the IR programmer right away for fear of accidentally messing up my ESC's settings with it! I doubt you could set the new current protection feature with the IR programmer anyways.
