Default New Futaba CGY750 Software Ver. 1.4x

Futaba is pleased to release Version 1.4x software for the CGY750 Flybarless System. This update offers faster, more streamlined options in programming. Both menu terminology and structure have been simplified, to make programming a more intuitive and streamlined process. That includes a new flight tuning menu that provides a welcome shortcut to better performance. All heli pilots will appreciate the fluid control feel and excellent holding power. Pilots of electric helis will also experience enhanced governor performance.

Go to http://www.futaba-rc.com/software-updates.html to download the free update and new instruction manual.

Questions on the "High pitch gain" settings under "Flight tuning menu". If I'm already using a cyclc gain higher than 60% (say 80%), should I adjust this "High pitch gain" to something higher than 80%? Otherwise the default high pitch gain will be even lower than my cyclic gain if I just upgrade to v1.40, without changing any settings and to go fly.

I don't own the update lead so it'll be a while before I can update, but really looking forward to hearing how this flies!

Interestingly, the 1.4 manual now recommends having -20% expo in the unit to make it more linear, then adding expo via the Tx to get the desired feel. First time I've ever seen a manual recommend applying expo via Tx and FBL controller... See point 7 on page 14.

Personally I will always do a new setup anyway. Update, then reset each menu. Take note of previous settings first.

Yes,

The 750 expo default works as a part of the overall control algorithm to provide a more or less linear feel with default settings. If you have a taste for a little softer feel around center, add more expo in the transmitter only. I would not suggest adding much over -20% for aeros. If the model feels too quick to you, ease the cyclic rates with some transmitter AFR. More trans expo is ok for hover.

The HP gain is just a tuning percentage. Do not correlate it directly with a given value for anything else. And don't go messing with it until you fly it at the default value and see what you think.

Will it fly any different than 1.3X or is it just a programming thing?

The control loop algorithms have been updated. The cyclic feels much more fluid than in 1.31. The simplified menus are a warm welcome as well.

I think most will enjoy the improvements.

Thanks Dr.Ben for the explanation on HP gain, I'm clear now and feel safe to leave this value as default. Actually I'm already very happy with v1.31, just curious on the new settings on v1.40 when I saw it on user manual. I'll upgrade the firmware and give it a try this weekend if the weather is fine.

OK - time for a flight review of the 1.4 firmware on my Trex 600N.

I started by resetting my swash and fight tuning menus to defaults after updating. The new setup procedure is indeed easier - certain parameters (cyclic rates, gyro directions) are combined where they make sense and are much easier to set up in general.

I flew 6 tanks or so getting used to the new feel of the firmware and tuning it to my liking. First thoughts:

- Default feel is very agile and responsive off center stick. Generally, I bumped my 750s up to flight mode 4, but the stock settings on 1.4 feel just as fast (if not faster) than flight mode 4.

- I noticed further reduction of wobbles and wags from version 1.31 (which was already a huge improvement on v1.2). Overall, the cyclic feel is very solid and confidence-inspiring.

-Not sure if it was just me, but piro compensation performance seemed to be better. This may just be a result of the changes to the cyclic algorithms in the new firmware, but it definitely felt solid.

-Elevator hold in high collective pitch pogos is outstanding, even with no feed forward dialed in.

-I noticed I am running a total cyclic gain about 15% lower than on v1.31. If I run my v1.31 gain #s, I get a bit of oscillation on quick aileron and elevator stabs. Obviously, I'm not worried about this as the 750 flys outstandingly well with no wags or ocillations on the lower gain#, butI will play around with the Stability Gain setting to see if I can bump my total cyclic gain # a bit higher...

-Piro flips have never felt more effortless/natural. The thing just goes exactly where you expect.

Overall - AWESOME update, thanks for all the work you guys put into this!!

If I update from 1.31 to 1.4, will any settings be affected such as the throttle idle/high limit settings, etc thus requiring it to be redone?

All of these settings remained exactly the same. I didn't reset my governor menu, and it worked perfectly.

That being said, I DID reset my Fight Tuning and SwashSet menus...
