Ok folks and Race, I am taking the dive into this adventure. In going through the shopping list I have found some stuff Hoby King no longer provides.

HK-450 CCPM 3D Electric Helicopter Kit (pn HK-450)
Digital high torque bearing servo 13.5g/2.2kg/.09sec (pn HD-2216HB)

The page showing the HK-450 listed says it has been replaced by a V2. Can't find any thing HK-450 .V2. I saw a number of other kits but I just want to make sure I get the right one. Also the HD-2216HB is no longer availible. What servo should I replace it with? Remember, not a lot of money but good enough for teh beginner.

Thanks

wartoy-

try this for the heli http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=12390. It has an aluminum head and tail. You could use the Inolab 202mg servos for the cyclic, or the hxt 900's. If you use the 900's you will need extra gears and an extra servo for crash's. The 900's will break in a crash. For the tail you could use this http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=5196. I enjoyed my hk 450 build and learned a lot from it. I still occasionally fly mine. Please look at the trex 450 super sport combo. You won't be dissapointed. http://www.performanceplusrc.com/ser...0-Sport/Detail Call them and see if they will give you a better price.

The most important thing I can recommend to you is to buy a great sim. Pheonix, or Real Flight. Good Luck.

Hi all!

I'm new ta this heli thing, been trying ta get my niteranger in the air(batt.s no good no more, its bout 6 yrs old)

I hav the RF basic, and hav been practicing on the 46 size 3d,heli,been working upta flying my nexus 30.ok knowing that my niteranger 3d will never b all that,Ive been looking at these 450 clones,as I like the size of these lil buggers, allthough I'm kinda backwards, most peeps I know as they get older go bigger, but after flying the furion 450 on my sim, I'm not shure(thats a twitchy lil bugger)

ok the Q is can these hk 450's b detuned ta fly nice, and I know the pro looks good but my skills I dought will ever b ta doing extreme 3d!and I can only emagine how twitchy that lil bugger would b!

been looking at this 1,http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...dProduct=14516

and yes the wify asked me what I wanted 4 x-masso I will prob b asking 4 this lil heli!

looking 4 something I can hover around front yrd,and still take ta local flying feild!

thanks in adv. hope ta b flying soon! John from the great northwet!

ok prob wrong thread 4 this, but sense I'm new bear with me!

as stated in my first post I hav an old niteranger 3d,with a dead 650amp nimm batt.best I ever got outa it was bout 3 1/2 mins trying ta hover, key word trying!

gave up on it as by the time I started getting some where wit it batt. would go dead,ok with lipo tech. being what it is was going ta pic up a 800ma 3s 20c lipo!

I've read it has been done, but as I'm new ta heli's and lipo's and I know the NR has no lvco,

how long can I fly it without over discharge on my batt, from what I've read I will burn up motors n my 4-in-1 b4 batt.

so if some of ya with more eletric savy then me(which won't b 2 hard lol) could give me some insite,as I already own it,and know it will never b all that, I just wanna b able ta hover it!

thanks again John!

is this thread dead?

ok I've been reading through these 450 posts, and I see that some of ya, are use 4s batt.s

ok is it just a matter of changing the Kv of the motor?

and will it make this lil heli more of a hand full?

reason why I'm ask'in is I fly DF's also,and will already hav 2200 4s 30c batts.

not gonna b flying no extream 3d for some time if ever, just makes sense if I already hav these batts ta just use em! I'm trying ta do this a cheap as pos.

if its just amatter of changing motor's(as I havn't bought 1 yet) and using the same batts I'm 4 that

thanks in advance! the Kid!

The 2200 may be a bit to heavy. You could get the scorpion motor for running 4s. Try asking the question in the trex 450 thread. You should be able to get some help there.

So is the HK450GTPRO just a 450 sport replica? Is it compatible with align 450 parts? I am thinking maybe start with this and buy a decent gyro, servo setup and later move on to the align 450

Its the pro with a belt. The pro is a bitch to work on. Try the 450 with the metal head and tail. Great first heli. Much easier to work on. Although if you are good at building stuff the pro would be nice. I like the tail grips better, and the head block on the pro. If you can afford it you may want to get the trex super sport. It has all the goodies you need. you should be able to get one for $400 shipped to your door. the pro is just tight to fit the electronics in.

Hi!
Just a quick question for the pros, which gyro would you chose if you had to chose between hk401(http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=10113) or ga410 (http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=7647). I need this info to complete my shoping list and calculate the total for a new heli and as far as the rewievs on HK site, the HK401 should be better than GA410. Can someone clear this up for me, or recommends a different gyro that is not to expensive.

Thanks!

Hi all,
I well and truly stuffed my Trex 450 CDE today, not sure why but the way it went in was definatley down to the radio or ESC supplyiing power to the radio and I am more than happy to admit that it was my fault, I crash often enough. Anyway, by the time I added up the price for all the genuine Align parts to repair it was way more than an all alloy HK 450GT so I have ordered one today so it looks like I will be joining your club.

I am going to use hitec HS65 servos, align 430 motor and controller with a futaba gy401 gyro and futaba s3154 tail servo. I can't wait to compare the 2 with identical electronics

Can you give a quick review of how hk450 preforms with the same equiptment as align trex450? Same or worse?

Thanks.

Hello!

Well in last few posts i have been only asking questions, now I want to show you that another HK-450 is in building stage the building is going slow since i can only spend 50€ per month for parts and postage. This will be my first heli so i am using Craigs project for directions. This will be my setup:
HK-450
Blades

Gyro HK401
Motor Turnigy 2836

Tail Servo DS480

ESC Turnigy 30A
Batteries Nano-tech 2200

For the head i am using HTX-900 and 11t pinion on the motor. Heli, blades, canopy and HXT900's are already home, gyro, motor and tail servo are somewhere over the rainbow(waiting for them to arrive ), ESC and battery will be ordered in the end of month if nothing goes wrong.
What do you think about this setup? Is it good enough for beginner and some mild acro/3D when time comes?

And here is also a picture of head sorted out .

Cheers, Matej!

P.S.: I am sorry for bad english

Default My Build

After alot of reading, here is what I went with:

(I know this post was started a long time ago, but as a noob myself its what I used to help me pick out parts, hoping it can help someone else just getting started)

From HobbyKing (total about $200 with shipping):

1 x HK-450GT CCPM 3D Full Alloy Helicopter Kit - HK450GT
2 x Pinion Gear 3.17mm/0.5M 11T
2 x Turnigy 2200mAh 3S 25C Lipo Pack - T2200.3S.25
1 x D922MG Digital Metal Gear Servo - D922MG (Tail Servo)
1 x HobbyKing GA-250 MINI-MEMS Gyro - GA-250
1 x Turnigy Typhoon 450H 2215H Heli Motor 3550k - TY2215-3550
3 x D933MG Digital Metal Gear Servo - D933MG
1 x TURNIGY BESC Programming Card - TR_PC

1 x XT60 Connectors Male/Female - XT60
1 x 4mm Gold Connectors - AM1003A
1 x Turnigy R/C Helicopter Pitch Gauge - S609A

From HobbyPartz (Total here about $40):

40A Brushless Electric Motor Speed Controller ESC [Volcano Series] Brushless - ESC_07E05-40A
EXI-450 Carbon Fibre Main Blade for Electric 450-class RC Helicopter - EXI-Pro-3251-Yellow

Then I picked up from Hobby King (Total $80 including shipping):

Turnigy 9X 9Ch Transmitter w/ Module & 8ch Receiver (can be programmed with custom firmware - need smartiparts boards or make your own)

Dont forget a charger, HobbyPartz.com (Total $60 shipped):

Thunder T610 200w charger

For the charger, I made a power supply from an old PC PS I had (Im an IT nerd, so I have lots of PC's laying around) plus about $5 in parts from Radioshack

It adds up, but if you have the time and the money, you can do it too!!

That's a great transmitter, but I'd recommend buying the LCD back light module as soon as you can. It's totally worth installing and will make the screen a lot more readable in broad daylight.

Good luck with your build.

Default HELP

Hi i have only just got in to RC Heli and i have been bitten. My first was a Belt CP on 35htz TX/RX and now i have a HK450 (hoping to get a 2.4 TX/RX from santa). At the moment i have not flown it and i was hoping you could send me the the PDF files called "cheap450part1.pdf" and "cheap450part2.pdf". i have tried the links you have attached and cant seem to find them.
I have found that being able to repair from crashes is easy if you know how it was put together in the first place. As i bought it second hand it came assembled so i need to know what to do when i do crash.
Not sure if you can attach file to 'reply's'. if not let me know and i'll send my e-mail address.
Thank you.
