Default boom strike just after $250.00 rebilled

crashed my compass 3D plus from doing tic toc to low. $250.00 later i got it back in the air i was fling around and then did a full roll and the heli reacted kind of slow and then blow up in mid air. my blades were tight and head dampers are good. i did noticed that when seting up for the 6 degres cyclic pitch that beastx was in the read. this was the fist time that it was really in the red zone. could this have cause a boom strike?

Probably popped a link going from swash to grip arm. How many flights on your links? What about the grip arms and yokes them selves, did you do anything to those in your previous crash?

This is the first time I have personally read of a boom strike on the 3DP or 6HV.

+1,
Have you replaced the links on the delrin tubes?
I make it a point to replace them after a crash.
They get loose after time and crashes and risk the chance of poping a link.
P.S Hate to hear about your crash.

This is a typical for a breakage of one blade link from my experience.
The heli is then reacting like half cyclic and bearly steerable. When you put load on the disk like in a roll or a flip then the blade can run out of the normal very much and strike.

I guess that one of the links was damaged and you did not see the microcrack in the repair.

agreed , sure sounds like in your rebuild , you missed something.

sry for your crash , sucks when it isnt your fingers puttin it in. well , sucks more.

one thing ive found helps me a lot , i got a silver sharpie marker , and i "color" my links with it after any damage to check for hairline fractures , it really makes a crack in black plastic stick out well visibly.

That is a good tip.
We have a crak-detection spray for metal in the company. That works with color also:
http://www.technolit.de/App/WebObjec...Spray-Set.html

I use it on aluminium like bladeholders.

I replaced the 2 links from the grips to the swash plate. but I did not replace the 3 links that run up to swash plate. when I was looking at the heli after the crash I did noticed that one of the 3 swash links were missing. parts will be here Monday $394.74

The Delrin Drive Tubes, as well as the links can crack.

I had one that looked fine, unless you looked at it very closely, after a crash. The bottom portion of the tube, which supports the shank on the link had split.

I caught this before flying, but I suspect it would have let go in flight.

I've blown off links on my Atom 500 before which made it 'boom strike' but that was only a result of the entire arm free-flapping on the grip and the blade collapsed when I hit throttle hold.

Sure sucks to go through these kinds of mis-haps. Unfortunately on my larger machines these types of problems have led to probably over 1/3 of my total incidences/crashes with the #1 cause being lost servo connectors.

Chin up at least. It's a great machine to have around. I know I'm going to be a mess the day I ever put mine in.

Yeah I had the exact same thing happen on my 6HV. There was an advisory put out a couple years ago that you should use red Lock-tite on the swash balls to keep them from working their way loose. The newer solid balls were supposed to help combat the problem but they should be checked periodically just like the yoke bolts and any other fastener that goes I'm the head and tail components.

Again, sorry that that happened. I suppose it's a message that should be reiterated from time to time.
