getting frustrated
i figured the tail motor was crapping out on me so after spending 13 bucks for a new one i see it has not corrected the problem. the heli still wants to spin a bit in idle flight and spin around in a circle when i give it throttle. in my mind all i can think of is its the 5n1 board which i just replaced little over a month ago. any suggestions?

Another thing that happens some times is the hole on the rotor gets hogged out and the rotor spins on the motor shaft.

rotor is on the correct side and i don't think the hole is stretched out. now its not so much spinning but doing what i have read people call wagging, all leading me to believe that the board is nfg

Check and see if it is plugged in correctly, I believe there is a red dot. If it isn't spinning in the right direction then you'll have this problem. Good luck.

Could you have gotten another crappy motor? Not outside the realm of possibility. I've only killed one tail motor in 3 months, my fault. Accidentially turned too wide in living room and rear of copter hit a lit candle my wife had on the fireplace. Was cleaning wax off of other areas for a while too |

your gonna love this... i checked to make sure it was plugged in correctly, despite the red meeting the red, as suspected it sat on the ground and spun in a circle so i reconnected it properly and tried it again. now its flying a little better than before not such a pronounced wag just ity bitty back and fourth movements but staying stable for the most part. however i can hear the tail motor pitch fluctuating wildly while its in the air. bad tail motor out of the package?

Hi
Look at the tail rotor blade.
One side you will see a very definite X , the X side must go towards the motor or the tail will not hold and it will do what you are describing. Take a look.

I have had brand-new tail motors not work. Take it to your local hobby store and plug in another one before leaving the store. Seriously... these tail motors are complete crap. 1 in 10 will not work at all right out of the package. The ones that do work will only last you a month or so before they start becoming inconsistent and failing.

While these tail motors are not the greatest, consider what you are asking it to do?
These little motors do a lot of work and get beat up in crashes on a regular basis. While it is very possible and likely to get a bad new one, only getting 1 good in 10... come on now. I still have the original tail motor in my heli and it is 4 months old and has more than 200 flights. Another fellow I fly with has more than 100 flights on his. We each have a spare that have never been used other than a plug and play to make sure they were OK in case we did need them. Proper setup and regular maintainence will go a long way in adding life, as well as fewer crashes. Failing to cut power before impact is a sure way of causing motor failure. Not protecting the delicate wires on the tail motor is a sure way of causing premature motor failure. Then again some just have bad luck, but for the most part they are one of the sturdiest built mini heli's on the market. Airshot |

just to update you all i went back to the hobby shop where we put in another tail motor and was still doing the same, though as i said previously it doesn't appear to be as bad right now. what i did discover is the motor itself is vibrating out of the socket and then spinning in the housing. so now i will have to put a dab of silicone on there to keep it in place. the other suggestion that was given to me was to put clear nail polish on the connectors so they don't come apart. if this continues to happen intermittently then i will know that there is something wrong with the 5 in 1 board.
to be honest i like this little heli but i can see why people frown on the elec tail motors, only thing i dont understand is if HH knows of the problem why do they not do something about it. |

I had one spinning on throttle up too
I replaced the the whole boom Assembly ,, there was wire damage inside the boom where it goes into the main frame . I first thought it was the motor all together but when it came time for a smoking tail motor to be replaced I took the one from the bad boom and it was just fine ...So I say replace the boom and motor and see if that works

I think I have just had bad luck really. My original tail motor lasted several months. My second one started acting erratically about 3 months in and on that adventure, I purchased TWO new tail motors that did not work right out of the package. I went back to my LHS and demanded that I be allowed to test out the next one in the store (they gave my money back both times BTW). I will always do that from now on.
But to the original poster- They do come out of the package not working ocassionally. Try another one. |

at this point i have replaced the motor at the hobby shop and it still wagged a lil bit and it does seem to drift a lil bit too. however what im noticing is it gets worse as a few minuts of flight come into play and if i pop in a frsh battery it kind of goes away. what im thinking now is the batteries i have, which are a couple months old now and since the heli was used when i got it i dont really know what kind of use they got before, so im thinking its time for a set of new batteries.

As the battery wears down from use, you WILL get drift....a common aspect of an electric heli. Can't be avoided and is normal.

i understand drift but is it normal for the heli to do pirouetts on lift throttle with a weak battery?

Have you tried a different (known good) battery through out this whole ordeal?

I used to do nitro a lot and vehicle batteries were never a really big deal. But when you have the receiving, gyro, speed controller for multiple motors, ect, all drawing power from the same power source, your batteries better be up to the task. Doesn't help that you can't exactly just stall in the air like you can with a ground car. I'm buying all high quality batteries from now on. Hyperion, ect...
