Post Calling All MSH Protos Owners...

I am looking for information on your opinion on your Protos. The Pros and Cons. Advice, suggestions, build ease, repair cost vs. other brands, etc. I am looking to obtain one in July during my vacation.

I would also like to know your setup (spec wise, motor, esc, bec, servos, etc.)

I love my Protos!

Pros: Flies awesome, lightest 500-class bird, low parts count, single-belt design (super quiet and resilient), inexpensive and readily available parts, available stretch kit.

Cons: tail setup can be finicky, stock canopy colors can be hard to see at distance.

Everything ^^ said.

Slightly smaller than a Trex 500.

Cons

Don't react well to the use of Align Hold Down straps.

I will be getting a Mini P soon.

Oh and thanks for your service.

Nicest 500 size heli period. Just grab the combo with the scorpion motor and YGE esc and you will be set. The Protos is a very simple heli that flies awesome.

I don't own one yet either as I am planning to have one between now and winter but if you are in a rush then just do some forum searching as your questions will be answered. I know mine where by reading through the threads as there are a lot of different build and vs threads.

Mine is setup with Futaba 9650 cyclic servos, Outrage OS7654T tail servo, Beastx Flybarless controller, Stock Scorpion 880kv motor, stock 60amp yge esc, running flybar Radix blades, but my set of FBL edge blades should be here tomorrow or Saturday. I owned a Trex 450 Pro before the Protos, and can honestly say that the Protos is miles ahead of the Trex.

here is a link to my setup. I have since upgraded the Align ESC and Lipotech motor to the Scorpion and YGE.

Got the tarot gy650 mems gyro w/a inolab d261hb tail servo. 3x hitec hs5245mg and stock motor/esc/SAB blades on the full carbon kit.

Man this thing is a blast to fly. It handles with surgical precision, no slop atoll.

Do recommend the hs5245mg, they are super smooth high resolution servos. The inolab is ok but could be a bit quieter, you could probably do better. And for $53 the tarot gyro is great, but I dont think its on par with a quark from what I've read.

Take your time on the build, laugh at Finless Bobs jokes in the build vids.

Its a surprisingly low maintenance bird too. Just keep those bearings lubed, especially those belt pulleys.

Probably the best way to own a P500 is to find a nice used one on the FS forum; especially if you wanna go FBL and don't like the idea of buying a FB kit + FBL upgrade right off the bat.

Mine is a cf frame, stock 880kv motor and SAB blades, CC Ice Lite 75, Align ds510 cyclic, mks ds760p on tail, CopterX 3x1000 fbl controller, AR6210 + sat, thrusted tail upgrade. Powered by Gen Ace 2600 6s.

Good advice Dr. M. I am not fond of the FB. I am not opposed to upgrading either. The only issue that I see is that the Protos, at least I haven't seen in the few months that I have been trolling the forums, don't come up all to often. The good thing is that I am in no rush. Push comes to serve I'll purchase the Protos fly her a bit and decide the FBL route later.
