...that a G5 will still fly (albeit a bit strangely) if you forget to put the bolts thru the head into the flybar seesaw.

Well, that's a novel approach to FBL!

I learned last week that it also does pretty well with the tail pushrod disconnected at the back, as long as the link is sitting on the ball.

I had done a mini rebuild, no crash but just wanted to change my head settings, which led to a pitch gauge, which led to re-leveling the swash, which lead to adjusting pinion depth....etc.

Dont even remember taking them out, but when i grabbed the flybar to FINALLY check pitch again (anyone got a flybar lock for this thing?) it just kinda pulled away.

Im amazed I got it down in one piece (3 times)

I think it was DominicD who posted the tip about using zip ties to lock the flybar.
Slide them into the gap on top of the flybar pivot.

Dont know how i miss that.Neat. So you pull them all the way thru till the block part snugs up to the head?

I don't think you really have to pull them all the way through.
Just make sure the tapered end is pulled through so you are working with the main body of the zip-tie, where the thickness is constant (making for parallel faces).

Yep, that's a good tool.
Only complaint I have is that you have to carefully measure the the positions of the two end sliders when you clamp them down to make sure they are the same length, otherwise your flybar won't be level.
The sliders are indexed which is nice, but it takes a few minutes of trial-and-error to get it just right.
That said, once you get it set for a particular heli it is a solid tool.

I took mine to the local soccer field recently and had a minor spill halfway thru the first flight. Even w the tail slightly bent and the main gear missing a few teeth, it flew great! Made some odd clacking noise but once the rpm got up it was fine. I was quite surprised.
