Hello...

You should be able to un-zip the JLC file using a utility that your computer already has on it.
I think if you just right click on the file, a dialog box will open and you should see an option to Un-zip or Extract/ Exrtact All in that box. Just watch were you save the file after you extract it. From there you should be able to open it and click on an EXE file to start the install.

Even though I'm fairly good with computers ( I built the one I'm typing on right now) I still had a freind come over one evening to help me get Log View set up so I could view the files created from the JLog.

It can be confusing, but it is very do-able. Actually you dont have to flash the SD card to get Jlog to work. Though you are correct if you want to input the correct gear ratio's (naturally you will) and set alarm values.

There are a few threads here pertaining to getting JLC and Log View working. Check them out. Send me a PM if you need to, possibly I could help you out over the phone.
unless your using a Mac.

Look for WinZip or WinRAR as an unpacking utility.

Unpack in a simple directory path not too long or containing special characters.

Start the setup.exe. Your PC needs to be connected to the internet during a first install because it may need to download .NET, 23 MB approximately.

-----
Download and install LogView.

-----
Run the JLog configurator JLC, select "JLog2 3.2.2 -----" and configure at minimum: Number of motor poles and ratio: 1:n or pinion:maingear. Save the config file CONFIG.txt onto the SD. Note the help box in JLC which can speak English also. The box is updated if you hover the mouse pointer over an item or click into it.

-----
Update your logger with the latest standard firmware. Copy the file to the SD, power-up the logger, wait about 10+5 seconds. Remove the file from the SD, read the config file again in with JLC. Check the file "version.txt" on the SD.

------
First logs: Start LogView, setup for English. Choose the device type "SM/JLog2". Then "file --> import device file" (log file from the SD ending in .txt). Select the log items you want to see, zoom in if needed, play around. Import another log file if you want. Notice the log session selector in the upper end of the LV desktop. Save your logs into a .lov file by "save as". A .lov can be opened by LogView, containing everything, logs and device definition (JLog) and your personal setup of LogView. The explorer in Windows knows about LogView to be used to open a .lov.

I got it working and what a nice piece of gear it is, I now can see my pwm rate and adjust my pinion for optimum governing and being able to see the bec voltage an amperage and a ton of other parameters is awesome!

Glad to read you have it up and running. It's an invaluable tool, especially when figuring out a new set up. It 's great to be able to see whats going on with the electronincs and not just guess.

Extra and especially for you:
Unzip the attached file, open it with LogView (yes, OPEN, e.g. by double-clicking in the explorer).
LogView learns a device "JLog2Fahrenheit" that way.

I'm not sure if I understand well... You have LogView installed but do not want to import a logfile from the SD? So you also do not want to modify the config file "CONFIG.txt" by JLC on this laptop because you generally do not want to work with the SD?
Do what you like... But I can see no sense in it.

Possibly on your lap top, the OS is set to "hide file" extensions. If so you need to change it to "show file" extensions

Oops..., my eyes... I read "I wont read" but you wrote "it wont read".
One letter, big difference.

It is btw rather simple to make such a modification for a new LogView device by themselves. If anyone w'd like to play:

My task was to change the temperature display from °C into °F.
Download the JLog2.ini and edit it.
Here on the example of T-PA and T-BEC.

The original passage in JLog2.ini is:
Quote:
Messgröße11 = Temp-PA
Einheit11 = °C
Symbol11 = T-PA
Faktor11 = 1.0
OffsetWert11 = 0.0
OffsetSumme11 = 0.0

Messgröße12 = Temp-BEC
Einheit12 = °C
Symbol12 = T-BEC
Faktor12 = 1.0
OffsetWert12 = 0.0
OffsetSumme12 = 0.0
Then I changed it into:
Quote:
Messgröße11 = Temp-FET
Einheit11 = °F
Symbol11 = T-FET
Faktor11 = 1.8
OffsetWert11 = 0.0
OffsetSumme11 = 32.0

Messgröße12 = Temp-BEC
Einheit12 = °F
Symbol12 = T-BEC
Faktor12 = 1.8
OffsetWert12 = 0.0
OffsetSumme12 = 32.0
Because: °F = °C * 9/5 + 32

I just changed Temp-PA ("PA" == Power Amplifier) into Temp-FET.

The same for the up to 5 external temperatures (JLog-own sensors).
Original:
Quote:
Messgröße26 = EXT:Temp1
Einheit26 = °C
Symbol26 = EXT:T1
Faktor26 = 0.1
OffsetWert26 = 0.0
OffsetSumme26 = 0.0

Messgröße27 = EXT:Temp2
Einheit27 = °C
Symbol27 = EXT:T2
Faktor27 = 0.1
OffsetWert27 = 0.0
OffsetSumme27 = 0.0

Messgröße28 = EXT:Temp3
Einheit28 = °C
Symbol28 = EXT:T3
Faktor28 = 0.1
OffsetWert28 = 0.0
OffsetSumme28 = 0.0

Messgröße29 = EXT:Temp4
Einheit29 = °C
Symbol29 = EXT:T4
Faktor29 = 0.1
OffsetWert29 = 0.0
OffsetSumme29 = 0.0

Messgröße30 = EXT:Temp5
Einheit30 = °C
Symbol30 = EXT:T5
Faktor30 = 0.1
OffsetWert30 = 0.0
OffsetSumme30 = 0.0
LogView devides hier by 10, e.g. gets 252 for 25.2°C.

Modified:
Quote:
Messgröße26 = EXT:Temp1
Einheit26 = °F
Symbol26 = EXT:T1
Faktor26 = 0.18
OffsetWert26 = 0.0
OffsetSumme26 = 32.0

Messgröße27 = EXT:Temp2
Einheit27 = °F
Symbol27 = EXT:T2
Faktor27 = 0.18
OffsetWert27 = 0.0
OffsetSumme27 = 32.0

Messgröße28 = EXT:Temp3
Einheit28 = °F
Symbol28 = EXT:T3
Faktor28 = 0.18
OffsetWert28 = 0.0
OffsetSumme28 = 32.0

Messgröße29 = EXT:Temp4
Einheit29 = °F
Symbol29 = EXT:T4
Faktor29 = 0.18
OffsetWert29 = 0.0
OffsetSumme29 = 32.0

Messgröße30 = EXT:Temp5
Einheit30 = °F
Symbol30 = EXT:T5
Faktor30 = 0.18
OffsetWert30 = 0.0
OffsetSumme30 = 32.0
The resulting .ini file is named JLog2Fahrenheit.ini - or any name you prefer.

Now the file is copied to %appdata%\LogView\Geraete\OpenFormat\.

Last step is to start LogView and choose the device "OpenFormat\JLog2Fahrenheit".
Customize your settings
- default viewable data values (graph settings)
- curve colors
- background color
Then: Graph --> save draft graph.

And finally I exported the empty session into JLog2Fahrenheit.lov. So I could give you a file that forces LV to learn the device by itself.
