Could use some advice...
Hi guys,
I am fairly new to rc helis - I have two trex 100xs and love flying them around. I have basically mastered them at this point. I want to move towards a CP heli and the blade mcpx BL looks like a winner to me. I need to buy a tx (dx6i should suffice, right?) I have never flown a cp heli before and heard it is a big jump from fp. Will the learning curve be so steep that I should buy the phoenix flight sim? Or do you think I'll be ok getting the heli? I fully anticipate crashing it so what spare parts will I need? Anyways I appreciate any tips/info/advice. Cheers, |

not for a beginner
Id start with mcpx v2. Starting CP heli's you ARE gonna crash a lot at first. This isnt made for a first time cp pilot. Its not built to hover. A mcpx v2 will teach you more and cost you less in the long run. With the head-speed this BL carries, CP newbie is gonna cost you in parts. If you can afford it the dx8 is a better choice. I have a dx6i and dx8..I prefer the 8. Look at nano as well..virtually no crash cost. Takes a lickin and keeps on tickin!

I have the nano, brushed mCPX V1 and 130X. Of these three CPs, I would recommend the brushed mCPX for your next step. It will still be a big step, so I have and would also highly recommend Phoenix RC sim. You will never stop using the sim for learning new moves and it really does translate to the real birds. Get a good TX to go along with it. If I were you, I might be tempted to take a chance on the new mCPX BL. I don't have one (yet) so I can't really speak with authority, but it could be less frustrating as you progress due to fewer TBO's. On the other hand, the higher head speed might create a challenge.

I agree with all above. I will add my 2 cents. You can, I tried, tame this bird down on headspeed. It still flies crisp without alott of expo. So to me it flies about like the mcpxv1 or 2, but comes ready for when you are ready with the non tail blow outs, and just as durable. Your call and everyone has great points and the sim is a great tool. But first things first, at least a 6i! I loved the 8 but it really needs the battery upgrade for better longivity if you are like me. the 6i would last 3 or more weeks on regular AA's where the 8 only lasted a week, tops! But the 8 is def. better over all. I like it better than my JR9503 but again, I bought the jr cause the battery lasted forever and could be charged at the field. I think the 8 has a different charge port??? Maybe. That little stuff turned me off the 8, sent it back for the jr. lol.
Good luck!

Re: Could use some advice...
i disagree with all above My mcpx v2 caused me no end of annoyance because whenever I pushed it the tail would blow out causing a crash, until I went brushless with it (which caused other problems..constant maintenance).
recommend either a nano, mcpx BL or 130x depending on your flying area. nano is twitchy and hard to fly initially, but super durable. the other two are a bit more intimidating and better in a park. you will learn heaps from any of these 3

My only concern about the nano is people keep saying the motors fry really quick...
Thanks for all the info everyone! |

Don't let the motor issue sway you. They aren't expensive. Just buy an extra one with your heli. When the first one dies order the replacement right away. Even with the motor frying if you are practicing hovering and orientation which you will do a lot of, you probably won't notice the motor frying until it is really dead anyway. The stock motor is going to last you longer than those trying advanced stuff with it. Over all you are going to crash quite a bit. The Nano is going to cost you less in the beginning when you are getting the hang of it. |

I'm also new to cp and got the nano a few weeks ago, motor's already dead and awaiting a new one. Got the mCPX BL a couple days ago and love it. Wouldn't recommend flying it in the house though. I also recommend a simulater.
