Set Up for dedicated Tempest FAI Contest Model
Gordie,
I'm really interested in contest flying, but would like to start with a model that is set up strictly for it. Can you give me a set up for a Tempest FAI that would be just for that. I have other helis for 3D so I don't have to worry about trying to make one do both. Thanks for your help. Gary Owens |

I use the Tempest FAI head, Setup to Cliff's Hiatt's instructions. With one exception I use the 60 duro dampeners all the way.
I use the Pro III paddles at 45 grams. Using 710 mm TG blades at 200 grams 1475-1500 rpm in hover mode. Using about 3 degs of cyclic deflection in hover mode. Aerobatic mode, Turning 1900-1950 rpm on the rotor head, 7 - 7.5 degs of cyclic defection pitch curve -7 to +10 Autorotation pitch curve -7 to +13 David |

David,
Thanks, I'll try that. The Pro III paddles you mentioned, are they an MA item or someone else? Also, where would I find the Cliff Hiatt instructions you mentioned. Gary |

Cliff's Recommendations for the FAI head setup are in the instruction manual for the Tempest FAI.
The paddles I am referring are the ones that come with the Tempest FAI rotorhead. David |

I don't run quite as much cyclic as David. I run 2 1/2 degrees in normal and 5 degrees in idleup. Cliff's head set up is very good and an excellent place to start. After flying it for a while you may want to slightly change the delta but I would wait until I was VERY familiar with the feel of the whole system.

How do you change the rate of your cyclic deflection in different flight modes. I dont think my 9chp is capable of that.
