Default When things got difficult in the beginning, what kept you from quitting?

We have all been at that position where we had to make a choice to whether continue with this hobby or call it quits. When you hit that wall, what kept you here and not on the sidelines?

A lot of people say this but I've been doing this hobby and traxxas cars too for 5 years and I haven't thought about quitting. I guess I'm an addict!

It was the difficulty and challenge that kept me going. Every part of the hobby was foreign and challenging. I couldn't admit defeat!

1.5 years later and I am still being challenges, but this time by inverted circuits

I have quit many times in the 15 years I have been doing this. Keep my esintials tools radio chargers battery's . And my gas heli. Fly sailplanes and quit Rc cars and fly power planes when I quit. I love the challenge of helis so I always come back to them. This time I am here to stay because of helicommand and the captain rescue function has saved me a lot of crashes ( money and down time). I will succeed this time! I can feel it in my gut.

Make some friends and not to be too ambitious. Friends keep the interest going imo. If u keep flying alone it is just a matter of time b4 thinking of quitting. I fly alone on weekends but tries to fly with friends during weekday after work.

I quit frequently. I just don't have the will power to stick with my decision so I jump back into it again.

quitting for me just isn't an option. love this just too much. if it were easy everyone would do it. i compare it to quitting on your family or life in general could you do that? not me. this is just so much fun even with crashing ,repairing and loss of money. it says alot about a person who doesn't quit and has that drive imho

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that most people in this hobby would not compare quitting this hobby to quitting your family or your life. If you love the hobby and your life is in balance.. good for you. That's a healthy hobby.

On the other hand if you are missing work, not spending time with family or friends or not taking care of other responsibilities than I would say your priorities are screwed up.

If you are spending money you don't have, pawning your old CD's, or prostituting to buy parts you should call 888-FLY-SIMS

Being fairly new I hit that "wall" after I started building my 450. I got so frustrated I almost quit in the middle of it. So many acronyms, part names, brands, fb or fbl, etc. I'm not much of a quiter though, so I took a few days off and researched some more on HF. Got back on it with the right tools and finished it up. Even built a 600 recently. They both fly pretty well for me, though I'm going to let one of my club members put them to the test to check my build skills!

Definitely a frustrating hobby! Doable though if you put your mind to it and put a lot of time in researching and learning.

Sheer bloody mindedness
Stupidity
Some spare cash

To be honest with you I have never been able to satisfactorily answer myself why I like flying heli's. It is such a waste of time and money lol

Does not happen very often. But every time i have crashed my 600 i think about quitting.. That feeling only last about 24 hours and im back in the game again...I think it's a normal feeling for most people in the hobby to have every now and then.
But in the beggining I have to aggree with the poster who said i refuse to be defeated..That was my attitude very early on.
As the weeks and months go by, It gets easier and easier..Sometimes it might even bore you.

After my first few months of trying to learn on SR's, I quit for three months. I thought it was impossible. But I couldn't get it out of my head and came back. It was the challenge, for sure. I have done many mechanical and motorized hobbies in my life, run bulldozers, backhoe's, and excavators, and I just could not accept that a machine could get the better of me!

It has taken me three years, about half that time wasted beating my head against a wall, and the second half after getting a SIM and a better heli, to get to the point where I call myself a sport pilot. I don't crash unless really pushing the limit or trying completely new things. It is rewarding and fun finally!

i totally agree! its all about balance of life. my point is its like anything else in life with success. when things get hard with things in this just keep working at it like you would with family , your job ,and all the dreams one has in life. success is hard to achieve in all of the above. and many will never achieve it by quitting when things get rough.

The reason I haven't quit is that my wife says "I know you can do it". She is great and I love her for that.

I have to be the worst RC pilot that there is
I have been at this for about 7 years and still cant get it to click. I have spent so much money fixing my wrecks I dont even want to think about it.
But yet I haven't quit because I suppose I cant. I still am amazed by machines that fly in the same way that I was when I was a kid. I guess I just dont care if I suck at it. I love it that much.
