Default Trex550e vs. Trex500

Not much price diff between the 2 but batteries seem to be cheaper for 500. Leaning towards the 550e. Any opinions.

Definately the 550E, it dwarfs the 500.
And you can get good 6S 5000mAh batteries from HobbyKing between $55-$75.

I use the Zippy Flightmax 25C ($55 +shp) and 30C ($65 +shp).

Crash costs might also be a concern but well worth it IMO, and I'm pretty cheap.

The 550 and 700 are my favorite. I would choose the 550 over the 500.

I'm still sport flying (just started in July with a 450 then a 500 3G in Oct), but I'm hooked on the hobby and thinking about a 550 3G soon.

Is a full-sized soccer field enough space for a 550? (Trees on three sides...)

If I already have a 500, does a 550 sport fly enough better to make it worth adding to my fleet? How about 3D?

Go with the 550 over the 500,, better power and much bigger. The 550 will fly way better than the 500 will

I have a 450 and a 500 and am now assembling a 550e. The 550 is definitely bigger than the 500 but the 500 is one sweet flying heli.

If money is not an object. Between the 500 or 550. I would have to go with the 550 kit. For the simple fact that, you can buy 500 size batteries and use it for the 550. Now the 550 kit can use upto 5000mah lipos as well. Meaning more flight times, also not to mention the stability as well. Just my thought.

The 550 is much closer in size to the 600, it's quite a bit bigger than the 500.

500 = 425mm blades
550 = 520mm or 550mm blades
600 = 600mm blades

Only an 1-2" difference in length between a 550 and 600.

The 600 is 4.7 inches longer than the 550E

The 550 is 8 inches longer than the 500. Side by side and in the air, the difference is huge between the 500 and the 550.

If you plan on using 500 batteries in a 550 you better plan on using two. It will never balance with one 500 battery.

Sorry, you are correct. I was thinking about a 550e and stretched 550e.

Picture from RC groups comparing the sizes.
