I ordered the torque tube for my 425 and 2 more batteries. Waited anxiously for it to come from Hong Kong and it finally got here. Wasted no time taking out the belt tube and tail to install the new torque tube. The drive gears will never mesh with the way the frame is set up on the $79 basic kit. The centerline of the tube is lower than the bottom of the drive gear. The picture in the one page "installation guide" even shows a diffrent looking frame. There is only 3 screws holding the bearings on the shaft that is driven off main gear and the battery tray is at a steep angle. Does anyone know if I am just trippin or is this for a diffrent main frame?

It would seem that it's for the carbon frame only. The XF frame that I just built has an extra set of holes in it to move the bearing block for the tail drive gear to accommodate the beveled gear.

Yep, I would have to agree with Spootman. Since none of the plastic framed kits come with an optional TT tail drive, they likely only work on the CF frames. Although, some of us have been known to 're-engineer' things on the plastic framed Hurris, I don't know of anybody that added a TT tail drive. MARCO ?????????

This is a real "bummer"
I have the TT upgrade waiting to be build into my plastic frame...
However now I understand this will not fit

I'm also very interested if anyone has modded his plastic frame to fit the TT..

The only way I could think you could make it work (and this is reaching here).

is to shave out the plastic blocks to the frame sides, then use two of the metal top bearing blocks for the cf frame, then shave out the little lip in the boom block that keeps you from inserting the boom too far so you can slide that gear in close enough. you should be able to use the existing bottom bearing block holes, but would also need to measure/align/drill out some lower holes for the top bearing block so that crown gear can be lowered to where it should be.

Something like this:

This illustrates the different bearing block alignments for reference, notice the tt one is lower:

if going to all that trouble, you may as well just shave out all the bearing blocks and install the whole cnc bearing kit. may take some fiddling, but I know others have done it with success.

Rather than go thru all that I figured it would be easy enough to just put the cnc tail assembly on the belt drive that came with it. Just had to pull the tt gears and bearings then put on the belt drive gear on the shaft. Actually it is a lot easier than modifying the frame. If you have already ordered the tt upgrade not knowing it wont fit in the plastic frame, like I did, you can get some upgrade out of it.

@nexgen: Thanks for helping the plastic dudes

Seems like a lot of work to get the TT installed on a plastic frame.... But on the other end: Days are getting shorter, evenings are getting longer, so there is more time to tinker, and less to fly

Indeed best option looks to remove enough plastic to install the complete CNC tail-block.

No material removal required. Just loosen the four frame screws to relieve belt tension and pull the plastic tail housing. Here is the hardest part- press the pin holding the tail gear off the original shaft. If you have already removed the tt gears from the cnc tail then just slide the housing onto the boom. Put the gear on the new shaft and slide the belt over the gear. Might need some small shims on the side of the gear towards the blades. No grinding or modding required.

Took it out for a test with the cnc tail and it nonstop piros to the right. I tried resetting the gyro and recentering the servo.... no success. It just wasn't meant to be. Will put back on the plastic tail and re do the gyro and servo. Maybe others will have success with this deal. My flying is not good enough to "need" a diffrent frame or to mod the plastic frame to get this tt to work. Flips and rolls can be performed just fine without a metal tail. Hopefully I will find someone who can use this tail upgrade. I now know I sure can't.

If you just want a metal tail there are numerous alternatives for the belt - I use this one

Sorry to move up this old post

I have a torque tube upgrade kit but if I turn the front TT gear (boom entry), it does not turn smoothly so I would like to disassemble the torque tube boom.

How did you remove the front gear from the tail boom (specialy from tail shaft)?
Did you have first to remove the tail box and after that, push the metal piece in middle of front tail gear?
I try to pull the gear with a flat screw driver but I could not get the gear out

It would be better if the torque tube upgrade kit was not assemble from factory
