Blade Clips for T-Rex 500
I can find the T-Rex 500 TAIL blade clips H50T001XX but does any one know if MAIN blade clips were produced for the T-Rex 500 by Align or any other manufacturer?

I can understand that those tail blade clips are to fill the the semi-circular cutouts in the inner faces of the tail blade grips, so they grip the blades with a flat surface. But I don't understand why such a device would be needed for the main blades, since the inside faces of their grips are already flat.
If the roots of the main blades are thinner than the grips are designed for, there's simple flat circular shims available -- usually supplied with the blades when they're from a 3rd party. |

Many thanks for the prompt reply. The inner faces of the Align MAIN blade grips are not flat. They have a similar profile as the TAIL blade grips. A catalogue search for the align-trex.co.uk website lists a combined set MAIN/TAIL blade grips for 250/450/700-800 size but only TAIL blade grips for 500/550-800 sizes with part # H25H003XXT H45H008XXT H70H001XXT for the combined sets and H50T001XXT H70T004XXW for the tail sets. I shall contact Align to enquire if MAIN blade clips were ever marketed for the 500 size |

OK, my mistake. I've never thought about my grips not having flat inner faces. I've got two T-Rex 500s, and I've just checked one of them and I see that there is a recess on the main blade grips, but it's much less pronounced, with much wider flats either side of it, than on the tail grips.
Given that the blades are meant to be able to move freely, and should stay in one position once centrifugal force has straightened them out, I don't really see the purpose of the inserts. But that wasn't your question, so sorry I couldn't help |

After over half a decade on forums - you are the ONE, the only one to ever bring this up......
I have the tail ones - completely unnecessary..... I'm like Abenn - I had to do a double take on the align's mains - an easement is there to allow bearing passage...... Interesting on my 6hv grips - are wide enough for bearing - no wallow - just flat - but have plastic inserts that goes above and below blade root - because that space is so wide.....

I like to make a very tight fit for main blades in grips on each flight day after first flight, when they are tight enough they dont turn so much in grips in a crash or hard landing... But I`m a little bit concerned if they will survive such a tight fit in long term.

I feel micros blades should be moderately loose to avoid shuttering..
450s and above - me thinks - needs to be medium tight to avoid the flopping around at spooling up/down...this can take nice chunk out your blades from jacking it in the grip. Grip should just barely be able to hold blade out horizontal when turned on its side. Any tighter you may be imprinting a stress fracture at the root....not from the pressure - but from the grip edge cutting on the blade swinging back and forth under such pressure. -

search brought me here..
dealing with loose main blades on my 500, the bolt really has to be cranked down to capture the blade. I guess I'll be using flat shims to get some traction. Strange why Align didn't make clips for the 500 mains. |
