A little tail help please
Hi everyone, I'm coming from the Blade Heli world of BNF and RTF helis which have one piece fixed pitch tail assembly. I'm currently building my first what I'd call real heli (a Goblin 500 Sport) and I could use a little help. I've found info on how tight to tighten my main blades, but I haven't found information on how tight the tail blades should be. My tail blade grips are very tight with out tightening so maybe I'll have to spread them open a bit? Thanks for any help on this topic as I have no clue.

Hi, your tail blades need to be loose enough to lead and lag like your main blades.try using some fine grade sand paper on both sides of the tail blade on the mounting area a little a time and refit to check, loose is kind of subjective so but rigid is not right. Lots of info on the forums, hope this helps

I like to run my tails just tight enough that they do not fall on their own, but with a light tap will easily fall! Make any sense? LOL I have heard of people lightly spreading the grips just enough for the blades to move freely. But as Helithunder mentioned, little light sanding might be your best bet.

I would be very reluctant to go "spreading out" aluminium grips. Not a good solution and might end in failure. If the blades are very tight you need to do some sanding instead as mentioned above. As for how tight they should be, I have mine just tight enough to stop them falling down on their own. So not very tight. I run my main blades much tighter on my Goblin (380 in my case).

Thanks
Thanks for the scoop guys. Yeah I didn't think "spreading" the grips was a good idea, but seeing how tight they are I looked at it as possible solution. I've sanded the blade area around the bolt hole and now have it close to the tension you've all mentioned.
I appreciate the help gentlemen |
