Unfortunately I can't do IRCHA this year, just too much going on here. Tempting proposition though ............I think Deepak will be there. Maybe next year for me.

We're out for the maiden tomorrow at the crack of dawn. Here's our idea of nose-weight. Actually, we took out eight washers for it to balance dead-on with half tank of fuel.

Blades tracked right off the bench, no vibes, just a couple clicks of right and fwd cyclic trim. This B.H. Hanson 290 engine is SWEET! (I may have to get me one)

There she is on the maiden flight (sorry for the lousy cell-phone pic)

Barry has been spotted, surreptitiously doing daily flights immediately after work .......I think he's hooked on this big bird
I expect to fly with him this weekend and capture some better shots or a video even. Would also like to get the two gassers airborne simultaneously and get a pic.

Barry just reported that the volt-watch monitor is showing low battery while the generator pilot confirms that the gen is making power.
Will check it out later today, with my gen-test lamp/load. Maybe just a connection issue or a failed voltage regulator.

Been out at the crack of dawn again, flying with Barry. Threw a tail-blade on my newly rebuilt Century AS350 Ecureuil, hit throttle-hold to stop the tail whipping around, lost head-speed real quick and found out it autos with the grace of a falling brick ....put it in on the skids pretty hard. Got in some good flights with my trusty Raptor 50 Titan though, then it's Barry's turn to fly the Intrepid. In one week he's managed to run a gallon of fuel through the thing and is keeping a written log. I really need to get me a decent camcorder, but here's a quick cell-phone video ...........This bird flies sweet:

I just love how this engine reliably starts on the first pull

Turns out that the grub-screw on the shaft-coupling backed-out and the gen was spinning intermittently (I think I forgot the loc-tite here)

Thanks Chris, after the second gallon, we'll put the Zimmermann exhaust system on, go to the normal oil/gas mix and tweak the carb. This dude's says he's really happy with his investment, we'll be flying the two gassers tomorrow afternoon "Nothing flies like an Intrepid".

Please pardon a brief highjack but that's something I wouldn't mind talking to you about at IRCHA if we get the chance. One thing I've never felt totally comfortable with is judging the mixture on a gasser by sound. Nitro's are no problem but I've never felt like I had it down on the Gasser. I go more by how the bird feels in the air and judging by the spark plug I don't think I'm too far off but I could certainly use your insight.

Fly Safe,
Steve R.

Not a hijack at all, I welcome the query. I don't think I have it down either. I tweak and fly/feel the difference. With the Zimmermann rear exhaust fitted, it's a PITA to get the plug out to check anyways. Punch-outs are a decent indicator in this regard I think. I've found the sweet spot seems not very far from the initial 1 3/8 settings .... and only turning a screwdriver-blade-thickness makes a big difference, so it takes time flying/landing/tweaking. I always wanted to go through the procedure with Chris and Lou at IRCHA but never got around to it as we were having so much fun playing with the Turbines
Whatever you learn at IRCHA please pass on to the rest of us it is info worth having.
