DX9 Throttle Hold Set to -3 Degrees
In the latest issue of Electric Flight there is an article about learning Autorotations. It states that when learning how to do this you can set your Throttle Hold pitch to 3 degrees of negative collective.
Does anyone know how this is done on the DX9?? |

You must be careful here though, because if your are flying normally using a different pitch curve, activating TH in an emergency can mean the heli suddenly jumps up or slams down because of the sudden TH pitch curve change depending on what your stick position and pitch were at the time of activation.

Yes I tried that at first and it just didnt seem right. There is some leeway from 3 degrees.
Some prefer 2. In an actual deadstick if you dont catch it before alot of the energy bleeds off you might have to go -4 or 5 to get it spinning again without losing more distance than you need. Personally I think I did better learning by putting the pitch gauge on at the bench and practicing to get the feel of just how far below center I needed to move the stick to hit 2-3 degrees without thinking about it. If you really want to do the first couple autos and not have to worry about the pitch then leave center point of the curve and up(positive) alone. The next point below 50/center on the curve you adjust so that pitch is at -3 or 2. Adjust points below that to the same as the first point below center. Then when you flip to Hold to do an auto you just have to pull the stick down below the first point below center and you will hit your setting with some margin for error in the actual stick position. Your setting a flat pitch curve from lowstick to the point right before center. 1&2 if your using a 5 point curve and 1,2&3 on a seven point curve. In the DX9 go to the Pitch Curve menu and change only the one for H in the menu. Reading all you can and understanding the physics of what is happening during autorotation goes alot farther to being successful than just trying to connect dot A to dot B. What size bird are you going to practice autos with?
