Default Recommended servos (cyclic and tail)

What are the recommended servos for a trex 600e. I want them to be good for 3d flying and that sort, but don't want them to be top of the line as my budget is tight.

Thanks

Brushless servos are too expensive for me... any other ideas? Is the S9254 the generally accepted tail servo, can it run on the stock BEC?

Just step down the voltage to 5.1v The 9254 is the only way to go with the 401, you'll love it! Also bls451's there worth every cent!!!

Hi All,

I'm running BLS451s in my 600E, but the 9252s in my 600N are adequate. The 9252s are good enough for 3D, won't break the bank, and won't drain your battery too fast.

There are a lot of threads on the DS821s being inadequate for a .50 size application. I know a lot of guys fly them (I do in my Swift with 550s but have had to replace the set once already), but they would be really marginal for 3D.

If you haven't invested in a gyro yet, please don't buy a 401. I know a lot of guys use them, but it has an inconsistent piro rate and can't be trusted for backwards flight. For just a few dollars more, you can get the JR 770 3D which is a very good gyro. Small footprint, holds great backwards, and has consistent piro rates. Stops on the 770 are a bit hard though and setup is a bit more involved than some others. The JR 8900g servo is excellent.

Or, if you can afford it, the best gyro on the market right now is the Spartan DS760. Small footprint, holds great, fully configurable, consistent piro rates and more. It has everything you could ask for. They're just a bit hard to get right now. Pair it with an 8900g for excellent performance.

That's my $.02.

Good luck with whatever you decide and keep 'em flying.

LJS,

I too was interested in upgrading servos and investigated the BLS451s and I found this information which came straight from Futaba:

The BLS451 is designed by Futaba for use in Nitro or Electric cars, they are not precise enough for the demands of heli flight.

The only brushless servo we offer at the moment for heli use is the BLS251.

Sincerely,

I'm not sure what to think now...

Currently I'm running the lowly DS821s on 6 volts. I am by no means a hot 3D pilot, but I do give them a good workout and so far they are working quite well for me. Not even a stripped gear in the one crash I've had with my 600e. I've also found them as cheap as $20 each on line. I guess as long as they work well, I'll continue to fly them...

Bill

After doing more research I see that Futaba now recommends the BLS451s for all applications including heli.

They may have had some issues early on, but it sounds like the current shipping version is top notch...

Futaba lists these servos all for heli use...
BLS451 - large scale
BLS351 - giant scale
BLS251 - tail servo

I'm running Futaba 9256 on tail with step down and JR DS8717 for cyclic.

Buy good stuff for your 600, you won't regret it. Better to save longer and invest wiser.

Default What Servos?

I have Three cf 600's,My first I went all out.Futaba 9351's on cyclic(can't get any better in my book)and a futaba gy611 with a9256.I set the gyro up just like Mecuriell shows in his(Trex 600 build and repair video,Thanks Mercuriell.)Really nice flying heli,Solid as a rock.
My second heli I used futaba 9151's on cyclic, and a 9252 with a 401 gyro on the tail
(I got these four servos with the gy611 and 9256 off EBAY new for $326.00)This heli flys great. In fact I like it the best.I just recently replaced the 9252 with a 9254 and can't really tell much difference. You have to use your step down voltage regulator between your BEC and receiver for the 9151's.
The third one has Futaba 3050's(Helidirect about $45.00 a peice) on cyclic with a futaba 401 and 9254 on the tail,I run the3050's on 6 volts and put a stepdown regulator on the tail servo.it fly's great! This one is very sweet to fly.For a nuby this is perfect.
This is my first post,Hope i did'nt run on.I've been into helis about a year now and want to thank Helifreak for all the info, without Finless and all the others I would have give up about ten months ago!
Thanks! David Perry

The 9254 uses a coreless motor, not a brushless motor.

Coreless motors still haver brushes.

My mistake, Still they are in the "I can't afford them" upper price range....
